If rumors are to be believed. the Xbox 360 Elite model is in for a pretty big price drop. The thing is, Microsoft seems to have dropped one of the features in the newer Elites hitting the US, namely the bundled HDMI cables.

According to a report from Kotaku, several GameStop employees have revealed that newer Elite models no longer ship with HDMI cables. If you're fine with getting a component cable with your new system, yeah, no go on that one too. All they come with are SD composite cables. HDMI cables aren't that expensive if you really want to give your gaming experience that extra oomph, though.

Oh, they do come in a new box, if that's any consolation.

That makes no sense for me. The HDMI cables were always a good point for the 360 and the cables aren't really expensive. (My cable was 5 bucks and NO, there is no difference between expensive and cheap cables, don't let them fool you)

» 5 BUCKS?!?

Where have you purchased said cable?

I have nothing to comment on the topic. It's obvious that this is a stupid thing to do.

» I don't get it

why do they make the console black? If rumor is true than this is basically gonna replace the pro and be the new regular 360 so why make it black and call it elite when it'll be the normal one.

» Even $5 is overpriced.

I get all my 10ft HDMI cables for $1.99. Gotta love Fry's.

Dropping an HDMI cable is worth a $50-100 cheaper unit, and its not like the PS3 comes with the cable either. Ill admit I purposely bought a PS3 from a certain retailer because it came with a free $80 HDMI cable, but the sad thing is I still use my $2 cable lol. I wish I had rather waited for the PS3 price drop, instead of being tricked by a cable and a blu-ray movie.

» yes

Don't buy the overpriced hdmi cables as they are all the same. I got mine off newegg for like $5 also.

» Monoprice

thats it only place you should look for cables. I feel sad for you Vman00 you seem like the type of person to get ripped off buy those 100+ MONSTER cables at bestbuy when you can get one that works great at this time since its only 1080p and the cables are tested for that.

MONSTER probably can handle higher resolutions with more data but do you even have a 1440p TV?

» Yeah so this is basically

a black Pro. With the same price as the Pro and just a bigger Hard Drive and everything else is the same. It is exactly like the pro. Thing is that its black. Hell they even took out the HDMI cable bundled with it to match the pro. I think this is a move to further nickel and dime customers. Watch in about a week we will hear arcade machines coming with composite cables as well and Xbox 360 component cables will skyrocket in price and a newly announced Official Xbox 360 HDMI cable for 150 dollars.

» Bundled with the wireless adapter!

For only $175 that's a crazy deal only Microsoft could offer!

I don't really buy things, unless its worth it. I'm just surprised that there are HDMI cables that are so low to buy. I see prices every where for $30-$70+.

» stupid..

because IT IS THE ELITE, dumbass!!..

vman, HDMI cables have always been ridiculously cheap, crap like Monter is a scam. Check around, there are some on Amazon for literally $2. idk if the ones that are THAT cheap are any good, I checked up on it once and some tests said those cheap ones are marginally worse, but the $8-$12 cables Belkin sells are as good as Monster

» Lol, in what world....

Is a $100 (supposed) price drop a move to 'nickel and dime' customers? So from the current $300 model, they are doubling the hard drive size and making it black. Oh wow, M$ is so heartless for doing that! Atleast Xbox come with HD component cables, PS3s still come with composite RCA cable that was invented in the 50s.

Just as you have stated, HD Component cables have not been in use as long as RCA jacks. This means that more consumers have TV's with RCA jacks. Sure more and more people are upgrading to HDTV's now, but those people are way out numbered by those who have not chosen to upgrade. I could be wrong but it seems that Sony made a smart decision by going with a more widely used cable.

used to give you a HD component hybrid cable. It came with the yellow video cable for SD TVs and the 3 component for HDTVs and audio is the same for both. So I think Sony should have done that if anything. $100 price drop should be a price drop not something that they will just charge you more for later on in the process.
