HD-DVD Emulator for Xbox 360 now free |
Ó
For those of us who still want some HD-DVD love on our Xbox 360s, then good news: the downloadable emulator for the HD-DVD is now absolutely free, and one only needs to request a download token from the program's official website. Nope, no payment needed - the thing is going for absolutely nothing.
But why is it free now, you ask? Well, if you've been in the loop with the format wars, then you'd have caught wind that Blu-ray, HD-DVD's strongest competitor, came out on top - as evidenced by Toshiba making the announcement that they wouldn't be making HD-DVD players anymore. This is partly the reason, of course - Microsoft also wants the developers who still want to make projects based on HD-DVD a chance to do them at no added cost, hence the freebie.
As for those of us who paid full price for the emulator, you're not left out. Microsoft has announced that full refunds will be issued to those who bought the HD-DVD emulator. Not bad for a program that lets you develop and test complete HD-DVD projects, right?
So, if you've ever wanted to try this baby out, then go right ahead. It won't cost you a cent.

a free peice of dead technology
Next up, Microsoft offers VHS, Betamax, and Laserdisc emulators, for FREE! (After you buy each necessary peripheral, of course.)
Wow, this used to cost $3,000! Doesn't seem very useful though.
You guys are missing the best part. The full REFUND for everyone else. "full refunds will be issued to those who bought the HD-DVD emulator." 1. I would not expect such a deal. That's the price you pay for cutting edge. 2. That's awesome! Way to step up MS.
For those who purchased a now worthless piece of technology. It's not that big of a deal. It IS only fair....
You call getting back 100% only fair? That's friggen outstanding! That's way more then fair. Plus it's 100% unexpected. When a business goes belly up do you get all your stock money back? Hell no. It doesn't work like that. Is everyone that bought an HD-DVD player going to get their money back? Hell no! And they shouldn't. But if they did....that would be outstanding!
i bought the hddvd player but i wanted to be on the the cutting edge i also have a ps3 so i had both angles covered so i didnt care who one .
so this means i dont have to go and spend $50 on one! its now free from the website.
Well it would have tobe, i mean even 360 fans arnt dumb enough to buy out dated technology, oh wait they already brought a 360 lol.
your so funny i bet everyone wants to be your freind and i also bet the girls/boys (depends how you are) have to queue up to get at you
woah im shocked by the generosity here hats off to ms
Why carnt gamers laugh at themselves my comment was ment to be tongue in cheek i even put a smily face in the short description to make that clear! i can laugh at myself i paid £500 for a PS3 on launch day now look at the price of them!
wonder when the blu-ray emulator is coming out?
soon enough there gunna need to develop a blu-ray emulator!!! i wonder if they will ever realize that there going to need to support blu-ray
"DL is the way of the future " too bad every one prefers tangible things
