The Peter Jackson-Fran Walsh executive produced Halo movie, which will create a stir in the summer 2008, finally has a director.

Sitting at the helm of the film will be Neill Blomkamp, a Vancouver-based director of short films and ads. Blomkamp employs a documentary-style, hand-held, cinéma vérité technique, blending seamlessly with naturalistic and photo-realistic computer-generated imagery effects that will mesh well with the Halo movie. Visual effects, miniatures, and creature design and creation will all be handled by Jackson's Weta Digital Ltd. and Weta Workshop, Ltd., known for their Oscar-worthy work on The Lord of the Rings films.

To help you decide if the bigwigs made the right decision in tapping Blomkamp to call the shots for the Halo movie, we will show you a video of one of his work called Alive in Joburg, which depicted a future in which extraterrestrials have become refugees. Let us know what you think through your comments, for now watch and decide.

Actual comment

i think the made a good choice, if he continues that style i think it will work well for the Halo movie, especially the scene with the robot levetating stuff, some of those shots were born for a movie like Halo, GJ!

...

i could see him being the special effects director... but not the DIRECTOR some of those shots in that video were meant for halo such as levetating and the big ship

so all his vidz on you tube

He seems like the perfect fit for Halo. I just might see the movie afterall. If I see a cheesy trailer though like dead or alive or superman i'm saving my money.

Another flop.

The Halo movie will end up sucking. It will flop at theatres (if it's even released there) and everywhere else. Then again, it's a movie based on Halo so of course it will have a dull & boring storyline.

Lol

Guy above me is an idiot. You're probably just another of those people who gets raped by 13 year-olds on XBL, so you have to bash it any way you can find. They had commercials for the Halo 2 game in theaters, so I think you can damn well expect this will hit in just about every theater there is. Basically, fans of Halo + fans of LOTR will see this movie, and that's A LOT of people. I wouldn't be surprised if it did very well.

stupid people

Well how many of ya have seen the other 2 videos this guy has made. with the type of money that is backing halo they will not let it suck ass. They can be like an other square soft and just make a movie that is going to flop. M$ will not let it happen. As to the people that said something about the lotr fans and all that he is right all those people are going to want to see halo then you have the PJ fans that are going to want to see the movie and then there is the halo fans. The only thing that could really kill this movie is if they are about making it a PG 13 movie. I think if anything that will be the death of the movie. Halo needs to be a R movie And it's got to be alot like aliens or something close to those movies. Givven that the movie has a 2008 summer I think it will be hard that summer for a movie to top it unless someone really pulls something out of there ass's i think with the transformers movie comming out in 2007 it will give of maybe a good idea what halo might look at CGI wise. It's just nice to see that some good scifi movies are starting to come out....

amazing

The vid was very realistic ! I thinks the director will have the same approach with the movie . If he does have the same approach , this new halo movie will most definitely be more than just some science fiction pic .

Very nice

I'll admit, When I first read of an unknown directing Halo, I was skeptical. But after seeing his work, I must say I'm very impressed. The shaky-cam effect along with the gritty and real atmosphere that was created for that 6 minute film has gotten me extremly hyped up. Good choice, Let's see what this guy can do.

Stupid shaky cam

I hate the shaky cam. Where's Ridley Scott? I want him directing my beloved Halo
by - 2006-08-09 19:02:15
Ridley Scott?!?!

Ridley Scott?!? He's a good director but i dont want my beloved Master Chief to face the camera at the end of the movie and say: "To tell you the truth, Diane, im not a man..." *takes off costume* "...im a woman! But im not a woman..." *takes off costume* "...im a horse! But im not a horse..." *takes off costume* "...im a broom!" Mind you, i wouldnt mind if master chief was played by a young harrison ford.

Pretty good...

Even the people in the video acted pretty well. Cool ideal.

boring

it seemed realistic enough sure, but i though it was terrably boring. but i guess it would be hard to make a halo movie boring so maybe he will pull it off
by - 2006-08-10 08:47:14
ah

this guy will do a great job at it.if you are a big Halo fan and you've studied the story line and read all the books you'll see it has a fantastic storyline , can't wait for the movie.

. ............(^_^) .............(.....) ..............(...) ...............(.) . . . MR.WORM SAYS, "HOW ARE YOU TODAY?" . . . . btw just cos a guy worked on lotr doesn't mean he is gona make this film amazin, an amazin film requires a TEAM of good people.
by - 2006-08-10 11:19:30
nooooooooooo

i hate the whole cgi-real life thing, because it just makes it seem fake. they dont mix. i hope he goes with one or the other becaue a mix would ruin it
