Halo 3 - Image 1 Earlier, a USA Today report details accounts of several students and workers who are eager to get their hands on Microsoft and Bungie Studios' much-awaited game Halo 3. They all either plan to call in sick or take a leave to play for the year's biggest gaming event.

USA Today describes Halo 3 mania as "a cultural phenomenon rivaling the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." With NASCAR, Mountain Dew, Burger King, and a slew of others getting into the act, it's not hard to see why.

College student Dane Mitchell says he's already informed his professor that he'll be out on Tuesday and he already has all of his assignments to be taken care of later. "I'm going to pick up the game at midnight from GameStop, go to a friend's house, and play it for 36 hours," he declares.

Dave Durham, a University of Cincinnati marketing major says "about 25% of the students won't be in class on Tuesday" because of Halo 3's release. Workplaces seem to be experiencing something similar.

Dave Godwin, a Kroger computer help desk analyst says he has filed a vacation way ahead of time and pre-ordered the game a year ago. All that's left is for the clock to strike midnight and gaming bliss a year in the making will be all his.

Gears have risen that Halo 3 ecstasy could last for days on and they could be right about it: Advance reviews by reliable sources say that the Halo 3 bite is as big as its bark, and that it will live up to the hype. What are your plans for tonight?

This is sad. I wonder my college will be today. Anyways, my plans tonight consist of getting out of class and going to get a hair cut, then probably doing nothing the rest of the night because my 360 is with Microsoft right now.

» Same here

Just sent it out too, and with the 6 week turnaround time I didn't even bother to pick up my pre-ordered copy. I canceled it and picked up Shadow of the Colossus. Always wanted to play that game, it's pretty bad ass actually I'm almost done with it. Anyways I hate MS and their substandard manufacturing.

And people that call in sick for Star Wars are just as lame.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Halo...but it is, after all, JUST a video game. There is no reason to call in sick. It will still be there when you get home from school/work. It will still be there the next day, and the next, and the next.

» And no I'm not some Sony fanboy

Although I do prefer my PS3 to my 360. I own both consoles and was very much looking forward to playing Halo 3 and now it looks like that's not going yo happen any time soon. That was the only title I was picking up for my 360 for the remainder of the year. The rest of the time I'll be playing Haze, UT3, Uncharted, Eye of Judgment and Assassins Creed. That's all before the End of the year. And the next year Feb 2 KILLZONE 2 baby. Ok so I maybe bit of a fanboy, but I still own a 360 and love playing it. But this is my second console brake down and right in time for Halo 3, so yeah I'm pissed off.

its not about money, its about being happy, and staying home to play halo is only fun for one day, not dealing with all the school legal crap for bsing ur sick is worse, go to school play when u get home, the game ist the most epic thing anyways, shadow of the colossus, NOW THATS EPIC, well see tho, there were a lot of ppl missing at college today theyre f**** so many pop quizzes against em heheh
