Halo 3 modders already doing their stuff |
Ó
Well, Bungie's beta is barely even out for public consumption yet and already, it seems, the modders are coming out in full force. At least, that's the reckoning of Kezins from 1P Start. In a strongly-worded post, Kezins grew increasingly concerned about how modders are already using the beta to steal code off of Halo 3 for their own purposes. The concern grew out of what occurred in Halo 2, with cheaters and modification experts taking away some of the fun of the game from other people.
Honestly, we're not sure how to react to that. While we ourselves haven't seen evidence of people ripping code off of Halo 3, it's bound to happen eventually, much as we'd like to think otherwise.
How about you? What do you think of modding in games, especially in games with high profiles such as Halo 3? Does it get on your nerves, or is it simply a mild annoyance? Let us know.

Would be nice if they found an exploit, but the 360 kernel is a tough nut to crack. Once they crack it, MS patch it and then modders have the choice of a hacked console or online play. Most Halo 3 owners are going to want to play it online so what's the point.
You mean hacking and cheating.
Modding/hacking/cheating in games is fine.
Modding/hacking/cheating in ONLINE games is another matter entirely. The people who mod a game that is played online with other people are (in this hardcore gamers opinion) the worst kind of lowlife.
I have to agree with that completley,
It doesn't bother me if they're running copied games and playing online but if they are modding it and cheating then thats just another story.
REAL Modding is what you find at moddb.com. Console gamers can't do any thing close. Look at a real mod like Dystopia:
http://mods.moddb.com/2928/dystopia/
Unless Bungie makes a SDK for real modders I just see it as hacking.
Doesn't make much different.
They couldn't stop cheating in Halo2 and they wont stop it in Halo3.
modders and hackers are just a bunch of cheaters who can't handle they game the way it's meant to be played so they have to cheat to win.
can't stand cheaters
Modding is ok when your playing with your friends in a custom game or by yourself just for fun. But when you start to do it online it gets more than annoying. If you have to cheat to win a game that has no effect on your life, that is pretty sad. Bungie needs to find a way to stop this crap soon because as vietone said, whatever they tried to do in halo 2 definetly didnt work. I dont think that feedback thing worked either and I am getting tired of playing a bunch of annoying 12 year old cheating racist kids every other game. Eventually I stopped playing online because it got so bad and only renewed my subscription to play halo 3. If bungie doesnt do anything about it then I WILL cancel my subscription because playing online is no longer fun....
now, just like Halo 2 used to be, whenever you beat someone legit, they will accuse you of cheating/hacking
They suck they kill the point of the game and ruin it for everyone else!, and i hope your wrong, hopefully with the 360 theyll be able to keep them out !
yah that suckes people wine to much
A little hypocritical. On Xbox Live all people want to do is win. A lot of people calling these modders lowlife's are hypocrits. In EVERY online game for Xbox live people look for the cheapest way to win and exploit the hell out of it.
In Madden, who would have thought that there were soo many Bears and Colts fans? Obviously not, but easier to win with them. And how about those scrubs that put T.O. in as tight end.
Or on Gears, someone say shotgun frenzy?
Or on Chromehounds, rushing bases with the spikes on wheels.
Or Lord of the Rings/ Command and Conquer, 1... 2... 3... RUSH!!!!!!!!
Or on Ghost Recon, using all of the glitches.
Or ......
The list goes on and on.
All people care about is winning, regardless of how they do it or if it makes the game less enjoyable. God forbid you dont get those extra 5 gamerpoints.

Concidering you dont have the Feedback system that is on the 360 while playing Halo 2 (or any BC game), they probably got away with it much longer than they will with Halo 3.
Theres always gonna be cheaters, its just sad that Halo, being the great FPS franchise that it has become, has the most of them. Im sure when the game first comes out there will be many modders abound, but once they play 50 or so games where people give them cheating feedback for modding they will probably get the ban.
Modding is fine when it doesnt effect the fun of others. For instance, if there was a mod to have Master Chief look like Earthworm Jim, then that would be an ok mod. Its when they use a mod to take advantage of things other players cannot do that makes it wrong to use, like auto-aim, or standby (even though standby isnt a mod). Its the latter type of modders that need to be removed from the online community, as they kill the experience for the rest of the players they face.
My only advice is that if you do run across someone who is modding make sure you give them the Bad Feedback for Cheating, and dont do it just because youre a sore loser. The only way the Halo3 community is going to be any better than the Halo2 community is if everyone does their part to stop modders. And if youre a modder yourself, then just stop. Winning unfairly doesnt prove you are any better, and it certainly isnt worth losing $50 over.
I find your post a little misconstrued...
Of course people on Live want to win, they most certainly dont play to lose. I believe people play in Live for competition, and not solely for a win.
In most sports games, yes, they stack their team with the best players they can use because they want to win. Youre not gonna pick the team with the lowest score so your team can drop the ball on every pass you throw. I generally wait to see what team my opponent picks before I pick my team, that way I can choose a balanced team in regards to their choice. And if they choose the best team, then I try my hardest and enjoy the challenge. You cant win them all.
As for the rest of the games you mentioned...
Who says you cant use a shotty as well? Or better yet, pick up the sniper rifle and pick them off from a distance. Theres nothing wrong with people using shotguns, especially considering everyone starts off with one.
Ive never played Chromehounds, LOTR, or C+C, but it sounds like a fair strategy to me. In games like that youre supposed to try and get the upper hand as quickly as possibly so that you spend less time struggling to dominate (i.e. Conquer) your opponent. If youre afraid of getting rushed then move your bases further away from your opponent at the beginning and build up your arsenal as quickly as you can.
I dont know of any glitches in GRAW, and I own and love both GRAW and GRAW2. This game may seem *glitchy* at times but its really not. There have been many times where I have died out of nowhere and my kill cam would go to a wall on a building, but that doesnt mean someone shot through the wall. Chances are they were just around the corner of that wall, and right when they killed me they hopped back into hiding. But honestly, I have yet to come across any glitches in GRAW. Dying in that game just seems unfair sometimes because it happens so quick.
Even if they do start hacking, they will get such bad rep and reported so many times, hopefully microsoft will have a report option in halo 3 where if they get enough reports, microsoft will check them out and maybe ban them from xbox live.
luckily youll be too busy playing PS3 to care, right? nah, im sure youll still find time in your day to come on here and share your thoughts, no matter how worthless they are.
I agree with what you're saying in principle but it's not the same thing. Finding an exploit in a game that was there to begin with is one thing, but stealing the code and manipulating it to your advantage is a completely different thing all together. It's not like picking the Bears or using a shotgun or even BXRing in halo is an unfair advantage; anyone can do it. I see what you're getting at, but what you just said promotes cheating, which I don't think you meant to do at all.
360 hasn't been cracked enough to "hack halo 3" as it would seem. It's not like the original xbox with basically no secuirty in mind. It will take some time if ever for the hackers to do that to the 360. It will be a long time before we see actual cheating in online games with the 360...such as aimbots etc....
Theres a BIG difference between "cheating" and "being annoying" CASE IN POINT "Socom" - for the PS2
(I never owned an original Xbox and so addiction to SOCOM for years was a thing, but I'm sure Xbox owners can relate to what I'm about to say.
Sitting on a hill, in a bush, sniping with a thermal scope, in a spot thats impossible to see, thats annoying.
Using a grenade launcher to blast a room as opposed to tactics to breach in, thats ANNOYING.
Running around the map 10 times faster than everone else with infinite ammo and the ability to not be voted off, thats cheating.
Having enemies name tags appear above thier heads so you can easily find them, thats cheating.
I'm sure you get my point, on any game we can all find tactics that irritate others to the point of screaming, but thats all they are, and with persistance and strategy you can overcome anyone who is using an annoying tactic. When someone cheats, that kills the fun. the challenge is gone.
So regardless of people using pirate or original copies of Halo (or any other game), and regardless of hacked FIRMWARE, breaking the rules of the game is what ruins it.
Final case in point, Rainbow 6: VEGAS. Calypso Casino...COME OUT OF THE GOD DAMN SLOT ROOM AND FIGHT LIKE A MAN. - not cheating, just annoying.
There is a massive difference between modding and cheating; modding can be used for cheating, but the two are not synonymous. True, mods allow players to cheat on Xbox Live, but they also allow users to create new maps, weapons and vehicles, change the gameplay or just mess around. Obviously, the non-cheaters are in the minority, but check out www.halomods.com if you're interested in REAL (Non-cheating) Halo modding.
Is If you can hack it so you can do System Link some how, then it'd be worth the hacks.

I think it's awesome to have matches with friends with Modded maps on PRIVATE or Semi-Public matches (With a Warning of Mods Ahead)
