Game Fule, by Mountain Dew - Image 1While Bungie Studio's Halo 3 for the Xbox 360 isn't expected to be out until September 25, the game is already beginning to break sales records online. Microsoft has just sent out a press wire announcing that the game has already surpassed the 1 million mark in pre-orders.

Further confirming this announcement is a related statement made by Best Buy movies and games VP Jill Hamburger:

The excitement for Halo 3 is incredible. From our pre-orders online and the buzz we're hearing in our stores, we know this release is going to be one of the biggest entertainment events of the year. We're thrilled to be able to bring it to our customers.

Several consumer brands have also announced their own promotion campaigns for Halo 3: Mountain Dew, 7-Eleven, Pontiac, Comcast, Burger King Corp., and Projekt Revolution. Here reads a shortlist of what to expect  in the upcoming days:
  • Mountain Dew:
    • The new Game Fuel drink: A citrus, cherry-flavored version of the original Mountain Dew beverage with increased caffeine content. The drink will come in 20-ounce bottles, 2-liter bottles, and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans, and will be in circulation come August 13, 2007.
  • 7-Eleven:
    • Game Fuel and Doritos combo promos (watch your sugar intake, kids).
    • In-store promotions including the introduction of three three Halo 3-branded collectible Slurpee cups.
    • Store contests offering various prizes, such as a chance to be a voice actor in Ensemble Studios' upcoming Halo Wars game for the Xbox 360.
    • Limited edition aluminum Game Fuel bottles, designed by the Bungie Studios devs.
  • Pontiac:
    • Gamers Garage events in select locations will provide fans with an opportunity to play the game before its release this September.
    • The company will be releasing 1,000 copies of the game, with one lucky winner receiving a Halo 3-themed G6 GXP Street car.
  • Burger King:
    • Halo 3-themed food wrappers, including a 42-ounce cup and King FyPod. The promo is expected to take effect from Sept. 24 through Oct. 22.
  • Comcast:
    • Hosting for exclusive video content, including user-generated movies and machinima.
    • Hosting for standard- and high-definition Halo 3 videos on its "On Demand" service.
  • Projekt Revolution tour:
    • Halo 3 is reported as an official sponsor of this event, which features Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance.
    • Game-related VIP events will take place at certain cities in the tour. Visitors get a chance to receive Halo 3-themed merchandise, and a chance to meet members of Linkin Park.
Keep your eyes peeled when these events and merchandise hit the streets.

» Remember four millions preorders? *rolls eyes*

I'm easily one of the biggest Halo fans (not fanboys), and I knew as soon as I saw that four million number that it was bullsh*t, and even explained why it's bullsh*t, but nooooooo, I got responses from fanboys mostly along the lines of "D0od you suxorz dis is Hal0 so its possible", of course without elaborating HOW it's possible.

Well now it's been proven false. HA!

I'm not trying to take anything away from Halo, one million is still a very impressive number, but four million was completely outlandish and I can't understand why anyone believed it was true.

EB Games ordered 4 million copies for launch. So yes MS gets that money and that's only one retailer. The 1 million is actual customer pre-orders and the reason MS reported this was to get other retailers to order up big for launch like EB Games has.

Holy market saturation! It's been a while since I've seen a VIDEO GAME get this much advertising (custom car, soda, its own themed system, collectors editions, etc). If this game doesn't live up to its hype expect a big backlash.

why preorder when you can work for ebgames and steal it before the release? noobs

In related PS3 news, Heavenly Sword just hit 1,000 preorders! This half assed GOW ripoff game is going to make sales history for the PS3!

» No

From what I recall, all the websites were reporting that four million actual pre-orders, each placed by an individual, had been placed for Halo 3, not that four million were ordered by the chain to sell at launch.

The articles I read claimed that five Gamestops in the Cincinnati area had confirmed that four million had been placed by customers, and the rumor set quite a few message boards, including QJ, on fire.

AND GO TO jail for being a cheap ARSSS and have felony record for the rest of your life!

» qw is right

Heres a quote from the the article that was passed around and originated on Xbox Evolved:

"Many of Gamestop%u2019s employees believe that a large portion of the preorders are being made by consumers that don%u2019t even own a Xbox 360, that are just waiting for the price of the system to go down. "

That implies that the four million orders were placed by people, not GameStop itself.

One very good question that I saw brought up on a few message boards was, if this 4 mil number is correct, wouldnt Microsoft be parading it around all over the place? Which they weren't doing. Why anybody thought it was true is beyond me. Now we have the real number.

Hahaha please, I'm not a PS3 fanboy cause I don't own one, I own a 360. I was in the beta, and it sucked, just like the typical Halo game. I also played Halo 1 and 2 but damn did they suck. Halo 3 is just an updated verison of Halo 2 anyway and isn't worth my 60 dollars. That money goes to Bioshock.
