Halo 2 Blastacular Map Pack now out on Xbox Live |
Ó
Desolation, the map that Bungie has been working on for some time now, is now out on Xbox Live together with Tombstone for US$ 4 a pop. Both maps are remakes of Halo classic maps Hang 'Em High (Tombstone) and Derelict (Desolation). Unfortunately for all you Xbox 360 folks, the usual way of grabbing your download content doesn't apply to this map pack. You must provide credit card information in order to make payment. Xbox Halo 2 gamers will be quite at home with this purchasing mechanic, since their accounts are tied down to credit card accounts.
You can still try to put a credit card account to your Live account, via Halo 2's "ye olde" school tech:
- In the Xbox Dashboard, select the profile that you want to modify, and then select Account Management.
- Select Memberships.
- Select the membership that you want to update.
- Select Change Payment Options.
- Select Add Credit Card.
- Enter the credit card information for the card that you want to add. This can also be a debit or Visa (or similar) gift card, however, some restrictions may apply.
Some other reminders before you go about downloading:
- For PAL-60 TV users, you'll have to swap to composite cabling and download the update and maps through your TV and not through your VGA monitor.
- Content may not be available in some regions, since content could roll out more slowly in those regions than others.
- Disable "Child Account" protection to download the maps.
- Make sure your credit card is not expired.
- Maps will be first available only on Custom Game. They'll move on to Matchmaking in a week if things roll out smoothly.

Though I'd still put Midship and Lockout above either of these, they are pretty good, much better than half the sh*t maps in this game, like Containment and Ascension and Burial Mounds and Gemini and Terminal and Waterworks and...
id say my top 5 in no particular order are lockout, warlock, midship, tombstone and turf
Nice to see someone who actually enjoys Warlock, most everybody I know absolutely blows at this game so they hate it, but Warlock, just like Wizard was in Halo 1, is one of the best maps in the game.
I guess mine would be (in order): Midship, Lockout, Tombstone, Desolation, Warlock (can't stand Turf for some reason)
I bought the maps went to download then it said installation falied. Any one else get this? I have 360
Hey QJ please do a story on the halo 2 blastacular map download problems. The forums on bungie are going ballistic. Most 360 users are able to pay for the maps but not download them. Also, the lucky few who installed the maps now are reporting that they are vanishing!! When they go to re-download them, it gets the error message. The error message is as follows "Installation of content failed. See www.xbox.com for more support information." There was a message up the first day on xbox.com/support that said some 360 user's were having problems downloading the map. That message is no longer up. What really makes me mad is no comment from bungie or microsoft.
