GTA 4 leaked, thousands downloading via torrent |

Here's a bit of bad news for Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive, and everyone who condemns software piracy: Grand Theft Auto 4 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)'s Xbox 360 version has been leaked on the internet and thousands are downloading it.
The 6.36GB file is currently out on torrent, and those with consoles modded to play backups will be able to get a headstart on the game six days before everyone else can. The number of users participating in the download of the image is reportedly growing pretty fast.
We're hoping that consumers will make the right decisions if they ever find the file on the web. Sure, it's a cheap way to get ahead, but is it worth legal liabilities and the probable lack of online play? You make the choice.

I think I got banned from YouTube because of this...
I made a Rick Roll Vid, of GTA4 and called it "Grand Theft Auto IV Intro and Gameplay".
I made Rockstar intros, and put a screenshot in the middle.
Then it was taken down due to copyright.
It had three brief rockstar images in it.
and it got taken down for piracy....
Some idiot at Rockstar probably didn't bother watching it, and thought it was real or something...
This is really bad news, i hate this.
This is the reason that developers will stop making good games.
If you like the game, buy it
i have three friends burning that game right now and one is playing it. i dont bootleg games but modding the 360 is very easy. they tried the ps3 but it cost more to bootleg then to buy the games. this bootlegging ***** is getting out of hand
it is already hitting the pc market. thats why so many games get released 6 to 8 months after the console versions. i think ps3 is safe from extreme pirating as long blue ray burners stay expansive.
But no one can doubt that a couple thousands downloads Dwarfs the number of sales GTA4 is going to have on release day.
Will I download? No.
Do I feel Pity Toward Rockstar? Not yet.
I see Many people getting banned from Xbox Live in the next 6 days. Not sure about PSN cause i still don't have it yet.
Now if only they had the PS3 version...
I would go buy it but I'm saving up for my MGS4.
Leaks like this only happen on the biggest name titles...someone has got to try somewhere done the line to try and be the first to play it....
As far as downloads ruining buisness, it was way worse on PS2 and Xbox, yet they survived....and even though it is not much harder to mod a 360, waaay less people are doing.....even I didn't bother and im usually the first to go for free games.....but I didn't want to mess with XBL and the chane of a ban....
Burning that onto a blu ray and modding a ps3(unless there's another way) to play the backup would probably cost you the same as buying the game.
And what about the PSP its the most easily hackable console there is in the world, and its still selling thousands of games and suposedly a lot of consoles

Just because blue ray burners are $$4 isn't stopping people they already have back ups its just they take up too much space that is till blue ray disks drop in price.
I'm fine with people playing the game before release date as long as they get it legally, such as if they work at a video store or a store that sells games. However I don't see why they decide to ripoff companies by ripping the games for torrents

It's only a little bit more, than that, so they probably ripped some stuff out from the image to make it smaller. Alot of the DVD is taken up with O/S copy protection related stuff
blue-ray burners and space has little to do with people not playing backups on the ps3, its simply that its a platform that has not been successfully mod'ed yet.

Now look here chaps, pirating of the home consoles will definitely decrease over the course of the future due to cost effectiveness (e.g 15+GB games, long download times and so on). Everyone doesn't have a 5+MB connection to download games at 15+GB easily so they're most likely going to go legit. However, one or two "private" sellers could start selling bootlegs to the "community", which proves to be more dangerous as we've seen with recent raids. Also with these non-portable consoles pirating decreasing, portable consoles such as the DS and PSP have definitely been on the rise with slot-1 carts and ISOs. It's cost effective and easy to perform so portable consoles will have the same battle to fight as did the home consoles like PS2 and Xbox.
Suck, seriously, most developers lose money because it costs so much to make a game. If a game doesn't sell well, the company loses a lot of money. I know games nowadays can be a bit expensive or that people may not be able to buy the system right away, but pirating just hurts the gaming industry. If people keep downloading games instead of actually purchasing them, there will be a huge decline in the gaming industry over the next 15 years.

They are the biggest company in the world. But Sony did better than them in terms of security. But we can say that this situation advantages microsoft, cause by playing a modded game, Rockstar looses money but microsoft don't. I can add by saying that more X360 will be bought because there (cheaper) games availabale. So I think that Rockstar should complaint to microsoft.
I think What happened here is this. We had threds online saying 360 is just slowing PS3 and Rockstar games and other sevs down. because 360 is like having a Xbox with better Graphics. like come on why the hell would u guys make GTA for Micro How much did they pay You????????????? just made Grand thef smaller GTA4 is going to suck cuz of 360 Thanks MIcrosoft Your the best Rockstar knew it was easy to be leaked NICE JOB ROCKSTAR.............P.S. Im sure if the PS3 was able to play back ups then it would be the same story.
If a game is good then it will sell well which will make money for the devs if a game is rubbish then it wont sell and the devs only have themseleves to blame... piracy is a very small part in this.
Take Mario Kart Wii for example same thing happend it got leaked a few days erlier and the game is selling well.

Rockstar made us a really badass game....and here we are...downloading it...not giving R* any credit. the least we could do it pay the price of the game...it's not that bad.
i'm pissed cause i wont have a good online experience with GTA4 on PS3. i was gonna get a PS3 for the game...but hopefully 360 will have it better.
I just hope the people who are criticizing the pirates are people who buy everything and don't pirate themselves. It's just so common that people who complain about Game piracy goes around and pirates music & movies and somehow think that's okay. I AGREE piracy of ANYTHING is bad ,but ppl seem to forget that. The only thing worst than a pirate is a hypocrite.

You guys are stupid, every game gets pirated. Halo 3 was leaked early too and it was the biggest selling media in history. nobody is going out of business over piracy. Thats just what the man wants you to think.

Rockstar has to earn money to make a better GTA if everybody downloads it because microsoft software is hackable they will lose money and there budget will be smaller for the next GTA
As of Halo being released nobody cares, because Microsoft bought it(Don't say made) so they can't blame there selves for bad security and Microsoft has enough money to buy a better halo

If you seriously think that a game like gta5 is going to have a smaller budget because of piracy of gta4 then maybe you don't understand gta5 will have whatever budget they want considering this is going to be one of the biggest sellers of all time even if everyone with a modded 360 (which is probably about .025% of the installed base) downloads it
that Rockstar were *****ing heavily about the limitation a 9gb dvd brought them...
and the final game is 6gb.

i agree that not a whole lot of people have a modded 360 despite the fact that it wont even hurt Rockstar with as many sales they will get with GTAIV. I would also like to add that GTAIV is the last one of the trilogy, because Rockstar decides to turn thier company over to EA games and make it more of a family company, especially after there last big law suit. Rockstar has come a long way and i do kinda hate to see their biggest game go down like that. I fail to see how this one got modded out of all the rest, but our industry is changing and some smart people have takin advantage of how much our industry has gone digital, But we all know that GTAIV is going to be a bad ass game so of course people are going to be anxious to get it early and so they did.
Man I wish Microsoft didn't buy Halo.
