Geoff Keighley: Halo: Reach to make a "huge leap forward"

There's something to look forward to at the upcoming Video Game Awards, and it comes in the form of something very Reachable, if you get my drift. Yep, that's right. The first in-game footage of Bungie's highly anticipated iteration to the famed Halo franchise, Halo: Reach, will be debuting then. Among the many people turning listless in wait is Geoff Keighley, who boldly predicts that the game will be a "huge leap forward."

Talking in the latest podcast of Major Nelson, Keighly is quoted as saying:

"At the VGAs, we actually go down on to the Planet Reach and see this game for the first time. It's all going to be in-game stuff. This is not CG. This is not live-action like all the kids on Twitter are speculating. You will get a first glimpse at the world of Reach, which is phenomenal. I think it's going to be the biggest game of next year by far. Folks love ODST and thought it was great, but when people see the huge leap forward Bungie is taking with Reach, I don't know if you've seen it yet, but everyone that I talked to that's been on the team and seen it is incredibly excited about that time."

Yes, he's seen the trailer already, which would explain why he's gushing like a fanboy. Well, that's quite a forecast right there. We soon shall see, once the VGA arrives.

So many great games are coming out next year, and Halo:Reach should be the best of them? Way to be a fanboy.

Did I mention GT5, the most realistic racer game ever created?
Or God of war III, one of the most anticipated PS3 exclusives?
Or Final Fantasy XIII, the most successful RPG series?
Mass Effect 2? Starcraft 2?

All these games have the potential to be GotY. Halo:Reach on the other hand, not. It's a prequel to a worn off series, nothig more

Sounds like a stretch to me, or a reach if you will. HURR HURR.

You'll probably see Halo: Reach using particle and environmental effects like Killzone 2. If it does it will be a very impressive looking game.

Alright so maybe it wont be the best game in 2010 but the way I look at it is $$$$$$$$$$. Halo prints money. Halo ODST which isn't even worth $60 sold 2 mil in the first week...imagine what Reach will sell and thats really been the strong poiint of 360 sucess their exsclusives sell alot.

Good thing about Reach is if you bought ODST your in the beta which should be awesome.

ODST was a huge letdown and became very boring within the first week. I rly hope that this game it more like Halo 3.

I wouldn't expect GT5 to even come close to GoTY. Starcraft 2, God of War 3, Mass Effect 2,FF XIII, and Halo Reach will be the top ones, but definitely not GT5.

GT5 will have the same faults GT4 had. Slow gameplay, only meant for the hardcore players, and relatively boring career.

I like the HALO series but after 2 they should have stopped I don't get what is the "huge leap forward" Its just going to be another FPS. To be a huge leap the game has to be more about the story then the graphics hence why games like Silent Hill, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy were great those games you played to understand the story better and it pulled you in to it. After HALO 2 the game was just run and gun with a small twist in the story.

Jeff Keighley is a tool, so you know you can't trust anything our of his mouth. Reach will be a drastic change for Halo? Let's hope so, considering how bland the last 3 1/2 games have been.

I'll just wait for another GOOD FPS title, thanks.

..since Halo 3 and ODST are still based on a modified Halo 2 game engine.

Halo Reach has a game engine written from scratch for the 360, so it should be a big improvement.

In fact, I think that teaser trailer we see for Reach is running in realtime.

I'm looking forward to VGA this week, we some new games and big announcements for PS3 and 360.
