Gates allows daughter 45 minutes of playing video |
Ó
Remember Bill Gates' rather thoughtless remark that Viva Pinata is a game for girls? Well, it seems now that his comment was sparked by his very own daughter. Gates shared that her 10-year old daughter was not a hardcore gamer until this year when the young girl started at a school where students use tablet computers for virtually everything. While addressing a business audience in Ottawa, Gates shared,
She became very avid and discovered a lot of computer games, including one that runs on the Xbox 360 called Viva Pinata, where you take care of your garden. She could spend two or three hours a day on this Viva Pinata, because it's kind of engaging and fun.
It doesn't mean though that you can spend all your time playing just because you're Bill Gates' daughter. The co-founder of Microsoft then said that he and his wife Melinda set a limit of 45 minutes a day of total game time and one hour a day during weekends. He then became somewhat serious and commented,
Up to some age, to be determined, it's very appropriate for a parent to get a sense of what they're seeing out there and be able to have conversations about it. My son said, 'Am I going to have limits like this my whole life?', and I said, 'No, when you move away you can set your own screen limits'.

Hey Respect Bill, we thought you where a total Haz0r, but nope... NICE
LOL
Slow news day, eh?
A responsible parent: shock horror.
an hour on weekends that is bull***** but i guess the kids can do other things since they are billionaires but still NATZI
It is good to see someone else who even harsher gaming restrictions than I do.
***** you *****.
wtf is a natzi
well good to see bill laying down the law
i'm guessing he doesn't want his kids to be playing mmorpgs all day long and not leaving the house to go to school
45 minutes a day is nothing to me when I play, come on I do that in two games in Gears of War online and In Call Of Duty 3 he should let her play more like 2 hours a day
You're post is kind of void if you spell Nazi wrong twice.
Then again, it would've been useless anyway, so who cares?
Good God, I hope Bill isn't one of those weirdos who thinks video games are bad for children. I can see limiting it for a 10 year-old, but 45 minutes? An hour or two a day isn't going to hurt you (or your eyes, for those idiots who believe that)
Actually it's not about belief, it's a fact. Looking at any flat surface for a long period of time damages your eyes. Your eyes become less efficiant at focusing quickly so when you look at different things there is a longer delay before your eye can see it clearly. This can be corrected by exercising your eyes or with special glasses. Doctors have known about this for years, thats why they have special glasses for people who use computers a lot. The only thing correct about what you said is that the actual tv screen is not what hurts them, it's no worse than reading.
its his kid
more time spent playing video games, the more acceptable they are to the violent ones.
