Gabe Newell: Interoperability between Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 is important |
Ó

Valve has been working overtime trying to quell the backlash surrounding the announcement of Left 4 Dead 2 last week. Project lead Chet Faliszek has already said earlier that they won't stop support for the original game, and now Valve president Gabe Newell has said his piece on the subject.
"Some in the community are concerned that the announcement of L4D2 implied a change in our plans for L4D1. We aren't changing our plans for L4D1," Newell said in a statement to Kotaku. But just what are these plans, anyway? Newell elaborated:
In addition to the recently released Survival Pack, we are releasing authoring tools for Mod makers, community matchmaking, 4x4 matchmaking, and more new content during the coming months for L4D1. We also agree with our customers that there needs to be an interoperability plan for players of L4D1 and L4D2, as multiplayer games are driven by the cohesiveness of their community.
The part about interoperability between the two games will probably go some way towards appeasing the sequel's boycotters, as one of their main points was that the sequel could "decimate the community for both games." It will be interesting to find out how Valve will achieve that, though. We'll find out when Left 4 Dead 2 launches this November.

I'm tired of paying for the PCs R&D. The vast majority of people protesting for L4D on PC don't even sign on steam ::hint hint::....so why do they care? I paid 60 bucks for mine. and I'll pay for the next one, tho I wish it would be cheaper ;D
are you retarded?
If they do play together that'd be neat, I don't think any 2 other games in the same series do that. Still won't buy L4D2 at $60 tho, $30 and you have a deal. Maybe even 40, but 60 is a no
I accidentally gave him a smiley face.
you obviously haven't been reading up on Mr.Newell's comments...basically Xbox 360 funds the research for the PC, all achievements + add ons to the game are FREE for Team Fortress 2, then he says MS charges people...so everyone's lead to believe that its MS, when infact it always was Newell's idea to charge. Cause all the L4D updates were 100% free. So I ask you now, are YOU retarded?
what does interoperabilit y mean?
no sir, i am not.
however, my question still stands: are you retarded? that post certainly did not help your case
Of course you'd say that, just like William Hung would say he's a great singer. If you'd bother to look at the sales numbers, clearly the Xbox 360 versions of both L4D and Orange Box outnumber the PC sales. Now, stop drooling over your keyboard trying to "flame" me, find something else to do. I merely was stating to compensate for this crap, they should make the console version cheaper.
i am "flaming" you because you were *****ing about how the pc's research and development were causing the xbox 360's games to be more expensive. not to mention you were also implying that the majority of l4d owners pirated the game. please... not everyone is a broke, ungrateful bastard like you might want to believe. in reality, if game developers didn't pour money into r+d for pc, 360 games wouldn't exist. plus, on 360's there are distribution and packaging costs plus the fees that ms charges whereas on pc valve can distribute via steam for next to nothing. also, if it's so clear that the x360 sales greatly outnumber the pc sales then how come you aren't backing it up with a source? one more thing: learn to use the reply button. it's there for a reason.
It's your loss then. It seems L4D2 is looking pretty good. I didn't get a chance to get the first game, but this sounds pretty good deal tbh.
I have the first game, L4D2 is pretty much L4D1 with some minor changes and a couple small new features slapped on. Not worth $60 to me because I have the first game, I'll just keep playing it and get L4D2 on sale or something
Wow, you're jaded on the entire subject, you're the reason why condoms were invented.
