The quality of certain Xbox Live Microtransactions - Image 1

We were looking for an apt picture for this one, but all we could really find was the above picture from Chris L's earlier article on microtransactions. Our apologies. Needless to say, we have a new bit of news on Gears of War that comes straight from Major Nelson, and it's probably some we can all agree isn't the greatest deal to ever come out of Xbox Live.

BradyGames is offering five different strategy videos on Xbox Live, with each one showing you the locations of all the COG tags in a given act.  It's available in all regions and a video will set you back around 100 Microsoft Points for each.

500 MS Points to have someone tell you where these tags are for one achievement? Yeah, you know where we stand on this one.

I could care less where you stand.

No one is forcing you to buy it!

Some pointless content, is better then no content. Trust me, I know, I once owned a PS3. The PS Store is a joke.

Im sure you would not be complaining if this was free.

They are not forcing you to buy it, and anyone with any resources knows how to find this info anywhere.

However, i'm sure there are people that don't want to search google, and would like it presented nicely for them...

So you get a trial to expand strategy guides into xbox live as a premium download for 100 ms points. What better game to trial it then Gears of War itself? Did you know that Prima has a website that you can download a e-book of strategy guides that are no longer in print? I think bradygames does the same. Now by no way does the 360 have the ability to do e-books but you can (soon) watch a video in the middle of game play. If you were stuck in, say, a dungeon on Oblivion that caused you to scratch your head and the internet gamefaqs.com says that you should be down a dark alley but all the alleys look dark then you could refer to the online video manual.... You know, prima had the bonus footage dvd that came with the Star Wars: KOTOR 2 book and it seems like Jade Empire had the same thing.... Sure you could Youtube it but you don't like getting up off your butt and you happen to have 600 MS points left from buying the shivering isles that you don't care to blow...

I guess you just have to look at it this way, every company wants in on the microtransactio ns and they have minor goals set to decide if they will perminantly be on (like EA testing Boom Boom Rocket). The fact is guys, hate it or love it, microtran$actio ns are here to stay, and you can thank people like me who bought all of the Lumines content and all of the people buying extra maps on GRAW, COD, and GOW.
