Fixing Chromehounds Ring of Death in Four Easy Steps

Three LightsWe earlier featured an article about the Chromehounds Ring of Death. No, it isn't a new game for the Xbox 360. Apparently, some people playing Chromehounds have had a problem with the game because it frequently freezes, and not only that, after switching the machine off then on, three red lights in the ring of power could be seen, which allegedly disables the poor Xbox 360 user to play any other game.

If that's your problem then we might have a solution. One of our avid readers, Lupin, informed us that he has been reading about Chromehounds issues like these, and that the 'ring of death' is "actually a common problem when a game freezes then on reboot gives a 3 ring of red error." The guy works at GameStop and had fixed three 360s with the same error. He gamely shared to all of us the steps on how this could be solved in four easy steps:
  1. Unplug everything from 360.
  2. Plug in just the PSU/Power to the 360 not AV/HD AV cables and turn on the 360
  3. It should now post a 4 Red Light error wich means no AV cable leave that on for like idk a few seconds.
  4. Hook back up just the AV Cables not the HD or MU
That ought to do the trick. According to Lupin, if it doesn't work, "leave the 360 off completely unplugged overnight. Then try the above steps again. Hope this works." Thanks for that Lupin! Now, tell us if Lupin's steps worked or not through your comments.

Hi,

This doesnt work...its been on a few forums with different ideas...it happened to me and ive tryed loads of things like this but still my 360 wont boot up...just flashes the 3 red lights of death

» Didn't seem like a permanent breakdown

If that will really fix it no problem I wonder what people are b*tching about.

» How

How would this solve the problem? 3 lights is hardware failure I believe, and hardware problems just don't solve themselves (generally). Windows was qwerky like that though, so hey maybe that kinda stuff (read ctrl+alt+del, kick, jiggle, restart) will work. Good luck to anyone that tries it.

» Really...

Why play a game that is known to break the sytem..

It would have to be one heck of a game for me to risk it..seems like it happens often enough to warrent just not buying it

» System bull$hit

This $hit shouldnt even be happening. If Microsoft built a machine that worth a damn then we wouldnt have this problem. I will bet you any amount of money that Sony wont have any heat problems at all. The 360 is really startin to piss me off. i bet when Ninety Nine Nights comes out the same thing is going to happen. how many of you get lag playin that game lol.

» Stupid comment

Geez clouducla could you be any more of a PS3 fanboy. Lets wait and see what problems the Sony unit has then we'll see what comments you come back with.

by clouducla - 2006-08-02 17:16
» i cant wait

#10....i cant wait for the ps3 to come and blow the lamebox 1.5 away...but dude...there seems to be no end to the bugs that ur crapbox has...when will MS finally fix em????

by Vietone - 2006-08-02 17:55
» Works sometimes.

Seems to have gotten 2 out of 4 of my friends XBox360s to work again but the other ones are done for it seems.

My custom cooled xbox360 doesnt seem to have any problems at all.

Well it seems microsoft will have alot of unhappy people. High graphical games causing the Xbox360 to kill itself isnt something thats good for publicity.

Lets just wait and see what problems the PS3 comes across. They have had several months longer to test the hardware. So make games for it. Stress the system and make the manufacturing process better.

Its doubtful the PS3 will have any hardware failures. Sorry for all the people who now own a 400 dollar paperweight

by Vecha - 2006-08-02 19:38
» wow vietone...please tell me you aren't 12.

"Its doubtful the PS3 will have any hardware failures. Sorry for all the people who now own a 400 dollar paperweight"

I guess you all seem to have forgot PS2 and it's many problems?

Sony settled out of court on a class action lawsuit against them due to faulty PS2'S.

by clouducla - 2006-08-02 22:10
» haha.....settled out of court..

dude...wat the hell are you talking about?!?!? ya i remember...the ps2 exploded and killed 2 people...ur stupid...ur right...ps2 was sooo full of bugs...thats why it didnt make it...wait...its outsellin both lameboxes (1 and 1.5) 30 to 1!!! get ur facts straight...loser

» 3 red lights started also whit chromehounds.

I think the game sends corrupt data to the caching or something like that deu it cant reset en it blocks . At first it just freesd en then almost al games freesd. BFME 2 worked en after a hour of playing i tryd other en they al worked until i inserted CROMEHOUNDS it crashed after about 15 sec. Now it gives me 3 red lights en no screen . Now when i hold the sync upp butten whit eyects a few times i get next code 102 witch means hardware or other unknown glitches , i tryd your 4 steps , nothing yet im leaving it untill later unplugd en i hope it works.

by papasmurf699 - 2006-08-16 16:25
» yeah just..

just call 1-800-4my-xbox I did and he told me to turn the console off, take out the hard drive then turn it back on...if you read your manual in the trouble shoot section, it tells you what the red lights off doom mean...but yeah I got the same problame while I was playing chrome hounds and it turns out it was just an over heat so just put a fan on it or something(I had the EXACT same lights as those)

by bob - 2006-08-28 05:09
» it works.... thank you!

The tip worked a charm, thank you very much. Though the "red ring of death" indicated a hardware problem, I suspect that the software is what caused it to lock up.
