First patch for Gears of War 2 now available |
Ó
Epic just released their first patch for Gears of War 2 this morning around 3:40 am PST. The patch will be focusing primarily on current matchmaking issues where parties of 1 and parties of 4 were experiencing unusually long wait times.
If you've been playing Gears 2 since before the update went live, I have two friendly reminders. One, get some rest, and two, you will need to restart your game to get the prompt to update. Failure to do so will mean that you will be unable to "matchmake" with people who were able to apply the patch already.
Here are the specific changes as elaborated on by the original post on Epic Games' Gears of War 2 forums:
- Adjustments to make Public matchmaking faster, especially in the single player party and the four player party case. Some of these adjustments should be felt immediately and some will play out over several days as our update enables us to reduce player segmentation by reducing the number of servers required to do matchmaking. This will increase the number of possible matches available for you to join.
- A tweak that should prevent us from losing some of our additional detailed stats data that we gather for gearsofwar.com. Due to the large number of concurrent matches, our stats gathering servers were not able to collect data for every single match played. The Xbox LIVE leaderboards are 100% accurate but our existing stats web pages may have some missing data prior to the update.
- A fix to address the issue where some players were unable to start the story-based campaign if Xbox LIVE was down or unavailable.

okay i like how there trying to fix the matchmaking problem but what about the weapons? some of us are trying to deal with the fire rate of the shot gun (which is so damn slow everybody is starting to 2-piece which is not the way to use the gun), and the lancer is way to powerful compared to GoW1. i liked the up close in your face with shottie pumping action in GoW1 then the slowed down version in Gears2. the only gun that in my opinion that still works accordingly is the torque bow(which is my favorite gun) but "seriously" they need to fix this issue before i go cop a version of CoD5.
Totally agree.
A fix to address the issue where some players were unable to start the story-based campaign if Xbox LIVE was down or unavailable.
Thank god! Now I can finally beat the game now instead waiting 20 mins for it to start.
I agree the shotgun is a lot slower now, but I kind of like it. It puts pressure on you to get one shot kills, which are as easy to do as they were in GOW1.
It now means that not everyone can use the shotgun if they cant get the one hit kills reliably, which means a good mix of techiniques being used.
The only downside to the slow shotgun though is the chainsaw n00b. This does need to be fixed, im all for the actual riffle having lots of stopping power as it stops roadie running straight up to people. But they need to go back to GOW1 with the chainssaw where a bullet would drop the chainsaw for a second or two. Unlike now where a quick press on B gets it running again...
