Pac-Man - Image 1Namco Bandai and Microsoft have a treat for Xbox 360 owners and it definitely has that creamy retro goodness that we all love. It's Pac-Man Championship Edition, a remastered title of the game that pretty much expanded the once-niche video game scene into something that's enjoyed by the masses.

We get you the lowdown on what's to expect with Pac-Man's shiny new look as well as what's in store for your 800 Microsoft Points.

Pure retro fans should be pleased to know that while Pac-Man gets the usual next-gen benefits (new mazes, new modes, new soundtrack and HD graphics), it's still the game you've sunk quarters into in the arcades - just pure good ol' dot-chomping, ghost-evading action.

To give you an overall idea on what's new in Pac-Man Championship Edition, here's a list for your reading pleasure.
  • Pac-Man remastered: new mazes, new modes, new soundtracks. HD graphics.
  • Core gameplay: no bells and whistles here. Get to wakka-wakka-ing!
  • Championship Mode: Main game mode designed by Iwatani and Namco Bandai for Pac-Man World Championship finals. Redesigned mazes, wider walls, widescreen for faster gameplay.
  • Challenge Mode 1: Patience and Reward Course. Patience mazes give you few power pellets, Reward mazes gives you a LOT.
  • Challenge Mode 2: Darkness Course. Only Pac-Man and the Ghost can be seen.
  • Extra Mode 1: Freeway Course. High-speed gameplay, only for advanced players. Lots of tunnels.
  • Extra Mode 2: Manhattan Course. A course inspired by the streets of Manhattan.
  • Extra Mode 3: Overall Course. A mish-mash of all the courses, designed to test the ultimate Pac-Man player.
One thing to note is that all the added modes are timed, so you're not only chomping dots and power pellets for survival, you're also trying to beat the clock. For those of us worried about online capabilities, there's the Xbox Live leaderboards, Achievements and Gamerscore to play around with so it's all good.

Pac-Man Championship Edition will be available for download on Xbox Live Arcade starting at 9 a.m . BST on Wednesday, June 6 (that's 4 a.m. EST for the same date). So keep a close watch if you're dying to get your Pac-Man fix. It'll be the best 800 Microsoft points you ever blew on a classic.

So this is basically what's already on the maketplace then? This better not be the 'big reveal' that was due today because this is nothing. I'm fan of pac-man but this is basically the same as what's already released...

by You, yes, you... are trash (game addict). - 2007-06-05 13:42
» You, yes, you... are trash (game addict).

Don’t read this writing because garbage like you is not worth it. Are you still reading? You, kid just never listen to what others say. I feel sorry for you, moreover I feel pathetic for your mom and dad. Your parents work every day so you can go to school and eat lunch meals; and, your parents don’t even know that you waste hours every single day to play (computer or video) games and visit game-related websites.

You have some virtual gaming-life and crappy real life; and both are worthless, stupid, and sad. You’re a nuisance to your family members. Anyway, there’re many kinds of addictions: smoking, drugs, computer (video) games, gambling, porn addiction, alcohol, and so forth. All of the above are harmful in many ways on people. Things like drug are bad for your physical being; others like games are bad for your mental self.

One of my relatives is a game maniac (or just a game addict). She finally went to the general hospital because her family members couldn’t put up with her. She was sent to 2 doctors (psychiatrist and therapist) at the general hospital who work extensively for mental health department (substance abuse program). I read the handouts and pamphlets she brought. The following is the guideline to distinguish a game addict from non-addicts. If you play even one game (or games) 3 days or more every week, and more than 1 hour on any one day, then you are classified as a game addict; this is a truth, a flat fact; no arguing on this matter.

If you disagree with the above in the slightest, go and ask to your family physician. You may say you don’t have time to waste for such thing; of course, you probably don’t have time to visit your family doctor because you have to spend hours every single day to play games. You can’t even realise what you really are because right now you are the trash itself – you have become garbage so many years ago – the moment you have first played games like a crazy ret+rd 10 or 20 years ago. You have passed the stage where you can be cured; you are incurable since many years ago.

The handouts say that 98% of all addicts don’t even fully realize how severe their problems are. Isn’t playing games enough for you, kid? Merely wasting away your life by playing games isn’t enough? So, you need to waste at least a few more hours every single day to visit several game-related websites to watch and read game videos, game screenshots, and game news articles which are all about games? All of the above (game pictures, movies, new articles) are totally worthless and trashy. You’re garbage, too, period. It was very hard to find such worthless people (like you) during my university years (in Japan) because it was a selected institution; however, during my old high school years, I have seen hundreds of trashy ppl like you around me (because ANYONE can attend high school).

Right now, with your currently decayed mind, you can’t even think or rationalize clearly. You can’t even talk some reasonable and logical things about life. Your brain has been messed up. If you disagree... well... don’t make me laugh. Just don’t... kid.

You may wonder why I’m here on this gaming site right now. First of all, I never even waste 3 seconds to read either the game news articles or other comments posted by others. I came to this QJ site only to post this writing since this is the place which is full of game addicts. I wasted about 30 minutes to write this informal essay down. Also, I wasted about another 30 minutes to read those handouts and pamphlets from the hospital. Then I wasted about 2 minutes to post this writing.

I gave you this very good piece of advice which can (or may) improve or even change your life. However, I don’t have high hopes on you, kid, anyway. The handouts say that about 95% of all addicts are never cured until the days they die (of old age or by killing themselves). The reports also say that addicts have 190% more chance to commit suicide than non-addicts.

» logic....

First off if one is to make a rational and logical argument is never to attack a person's integrity. To attack a person is to go outside the argument and only defeats one's own points. Also a fact is a statement that is agreed upon by all of those involved as that term and only that term. One to 2 hours of gamin makes someone an addict. This has no true bearing on the situation at hand. How do we define gaming? Is solitaire included? Is bejeweled? Also how do we define an addiction?

These are all terms and items that you may not have considered that DO make a large impact on the structure of this type of argument. From my personal experience i have seen people become what most would call addicted to a certain activity. The question is as a society how do we definitively seperate a "love or a passion" from an addiction? I dont know right now. The only thing i know is that if i were to go by your argument currently i would be addicted to the following:

learning

games

art

weight training

sleeping

driving

and various other daily activities or hobbies.

This is not to start a flame, as i said you never attack a person's integrity.

if you wish to come back and take a stand and discuss feel free to i am here and waiting. I only hope that you do not "post and run" across as many boards as possible.

Too many asumptions and generalization have caused too much hate on this topic...

(PS sorry for typos keyboard is kinda crappy for my huge hands right now)
