There's no stopping Microsoft from facing the competition head-on. Later this week, you will now see a brand new Microsoft retail store opening its door in Scottsdale, Arizona. Yes, imagine an Apple Store, only with a Microsoft sign.

Or something like this.

The opening of the first retail store for Microsoft is meant to coincide with the launch of its new Windows 7 operating system, which is due out next week. According to an insider source, the store will be showcasing everything from laptops running Windows 7 to mobile phones on MS software to Xbox products, and Zune.

Another store will be opening soon, too, in Viejo, California. Anyone from you out there from Scottsdale? Any suspicious-looking green buildings? Tip us off!

» Microsoft on Hardware = FAIL !!!

Software is about the only thing they r good for.

Feliscatuslover , where R you??

» I'm pretty sure most...

people would consider their software a failure too.. Although, I'm hopeful for Windows 7 but until I have it I'm going to stay skeptical.

» @ Raven

Really? Failure?

Personally i consider something a failure when people stop using a product, and windows is certainly not a failure on my eyes.

So uhhmmm, do you know people on PC who do not use windows? If you do, it must be something like 1 in 10.

Microsoft couldn't develop software if the world depended on it. In fact they couldn't do anything without failing.

Hopefully the stores will be all glass like the Apple Store in New York, and someone with a big juicy brain in their head will do the right thing, which is shatter them all to pieces.

Apparently your not aware of the monopoly MS has had. Why do you think they've had so many legal issues with computers and software bundling? I'm sure your probably unaware of that too however.

In any case, if you had read my post correctly you'd realize I didn't call it a failure. In fact, I more or less praised the direction Windows 7 is going. So please learn to read before making comments.

@ Cortador: you realise that even if a product is used widely worldwide, it still can be sh*t anyway?

We all use cars, even if they are inefficient, pollutive and loud? Do you know that there's something called "monopoly", which is the oil industry in this example?

Do you know that even there's enough space, water, wind and sun for clean energy, most energy is still taken from coal? Again there's something called "monopoly" on the power plants.

and do you know that there are much more efficient, reliable and safer operating systems than Windows? You guessed it, again there's a "monopoly" on OSes.

I won't even deny it, I use Windows, because MS pretty much kills all competition. But I even if I want to use an alternative, MS won't let me, because all aternatives are screwed up by MS. I

It's just like with the cars or energy.

You could try not to use cars and energy, but then again, what would be life without cars and energy?

the thing with MS is, it always seems to lack creativity. They need to understand is, they are a software company. They are known rich and known because of their software. So before all else, they should make sure their software is top notch. Their only expansion that is successful is Xbox, but even that is still too early to be carved in stone since it's only on its second generation. We can all agree Steve Ballmer is 1 smart dude, but he is also 1 crazy dude.

Nice to see someone smart on QJ for a change.

» WTF too early?

Well who are you comparing them to, Sony? They're only on their third generation?

If you're comparing them to Nintendo fair enough, but to call the xbox and playstation brands a failure because they've both been around for only about 10 years (playstation 15 years) seems a bit silly.

» Possibly

My girlfriend who owns a current gen iMac would probably beg to differ, I try to get her to use the mac stuff but she much prefers to boot into bootcamp and use windows...

She like Garageband and I did some pretty neat stuff in iMovie to make a DVD but she said she still prefers Pinacle for video editing. I would say iMovie is probably much better than Windows Movie Maker, but no one buys windows thinking they'll be able to do much with Windows Movie Maker...

Apple users on the other hand think that iMovie is awesome and it's not that brilliant really...

People tend to like to use whatever they learnt on and in my gf's case it's Windows, as much as I try to get her to use her Mac in MacOS (it's her computer) she prefers Windows.

Though I am a major Mac fan and cant stand Windows, I have it on my MacBook (Boot Camp) and agree, Windows Movie Maker is better then iMovie. Not because it has more features, because its simpler. Lets you create a halfway decent movie very quickly compared to iMovie which is the only iLife app (and GarageBand) that I don't like or use.

I'm fortunate enough to own a beautiful Mac Pro, as I'm am graphic designer, but unfortunately, I too have to boot in Vista 64, as I also use 3ds Max, and that's a Windows only based application :o(

I use Mudbox for digital sculpting too (which is also on the Mac), but I stay in Windows for that, as I need to change from Max to Mudbox quite frequently.

For my video editing, I use Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, which are both multi-platform, but I use good ol' Snow Leopard for that.

Nice to see Mac/OS X Fans on such a Windows orientated site :oD

» wtf

where did I "call the xbox and playstation brands a failure"?? and xbox is young since it only stepped into play for the 5th generation consoles. Longevity proves success.
