mm...

I think with this title it's not just about the graphics ;)
by GiveHaste - 2006-03-10 02:15:56
Ha!

Well it should be, because It fails in the gameplay department! Seriously, I purchased it on PC and only played it for 2 months. Just so boring and repetitive.

lol

Dont tell me the game fails in the gameplay department when you only played for 2 months. In 2 months youve seen nothing of the game. The game is a hardcore mmorpg, and only fully utilized when you get high lvl. Its a time sink, and in the beginning is basic. Just like WOW. You know how wow is a completely different game once you get max lvl. An dno mmorpg on the market right now has nex gen graphics. FFXI looks better then WOW. WoW is far too cartoony and blocky.

wow graphics sizzuck

the entire world looks cubist and at this point you can fairly say the game is over-rated. i mean no game is THAT good. WoW is the video game equivalent of the Grateful Dead in terms of how people respond to each respective art form, namely through obsessive behavior that ignores alternate forms of the same medium.

Oh, but it does.

I could tell you on day one that it has horrible gameplay. There is nothing special about it, it's completely unoriginal. My best friend Josh is level 75 and he doesn't play it anymore and agrees with me that it was boring. The only way I stayed on and played it the time I did was because I changed the fight music to Duality by Slipknot. I would have played it more, but I also didn't like how they managed accounts and billing. I don't like paying month after month since I know I'm not going to play every month, I like to take breaks, otherwise I'll get burnt out on the game. In this case, if I don't pay month after month I'll lose my character. Ragnarok Online was perfect on this, since you can pay for a month, then not play or pay for the next month and come back a month or year later and still have your account.

lol

You dont like monthly bills? Welcome to the world of MMORPGs, they are completely different from other games. And 75 la de da...just because you grind to 75 doesnt mean youve done much. If you grinded you could reach 75 in under 2 weeks if you wanted. Thats a bit hardcore for me though. RO is so basic and you think THAt is so much more fun? lol And if yoyu didnt know, you can not play FFXI for up to 3 months before they even delete your character. If you need a longer break than that, i suggest forgetting about whatever game you were playing and move onto a new one. FFXI combat is fun, and a hell of a lot better then RO or WOW. The only problem i have is that it takes a whole group to get any real stuff done later in the game. Its doesnt have to be "special" because i havnt played a single MMORPG that was "special". No one is saying FFXi is perfect, i could list a whole bunch of flaws. But to say its Crap is ridiculous, when its one of the better mmorpgs out there. And sure if you do the same things over and over youll get bored, just like any game. But if ALL you do IS exp then yea youll be really bored. I could play for months and not even exp at all. In fact i did that. I did other end game events. And the stuff this new expansion will add will be even more fun with things to do.

WOW

And teh reason why WOW is so successful , is because it a game with teh casual in mind. It doesnt take a LONG time to FEEL like youve gotten much done. Hell it even gives you exp bonuses when you dont play for a long time. Thats why the harcore players dont care much until they reach max lvl. Its like the MMOROG version of the SIMs. Casualness.

FFXI vs. WoW

The reason WoW looks "cartoonish" compared to FFXI, is because that is their style of graphics. All the FF series' pics have the same style and color features (hint hint, look at the all the box art for all the products). WoW has a more radiant look to it. I've only heard good things about this game. But what pisses me off is the screenshots. I want to see GAMEPLAY. Screenshots don't help me, that's not what I see as a player. I want to know what I am seeing as a player, not a camera flying in the game. Where's the HUD? How are the controls, etc. etc. Then again, almost every X360 game that has come out has done that, only screenshots and no player footage. At least G.R.A.W. did. Now what does this mean for PC players. Like, I was told PC players can play with the X360 people, right? But if the PC players have the 3 expansions, and the X360 only has the original, how does that work? I need more info on this. I'm not buying an X360 until it's worth it.

WOW

Yes WoW is VERY cartoonish. But its graphical detail is not as good as FFXI. WOW is more Colorful ill give you that because of the cartoonish visuals. They use a brighter color pallete, while FF aims for a more realistic look. And no not all FF games share teh same art. If you want to see FFXI gameplay then play the beta or look at the PC version. This is pretty much how the game looks, because the game allows you to take Screen shots. But when you take SS the HUD disappears. ON this game PC PS@ and Xbox360 players will play together. The PC version will ahve an expansion, the Xbox360 version includes all of them already.

Er.

Now you're just putting words in my mouth. I never said I don't like monthy bills. I have paid them, and it doesn't really bother me having to pay to play monthly. It's when I feel like playing, after a month of a game, it's going to start getting boring to the user, so I like to take a break from the game for a week or so, with my character still being in-tact, but for me having to pay when I'm not wanting to play isn't worth the time. I also never said Ragnarok is so much more fun. I said they do a good job when it comes to this, unlike Square Enix. RO doesn't doesn't delete your characters if your account idles, SE will. Even if I have played for only 2 months or so, it wouldn't matter, because once I got past that 3 month mark, then I would have to worry. Plus, after 2 months I expect a game that I pay to play, rather then just a 1 time purchase, to be fun. And for the record, I don't play WoW. Never interested me that much.
by GiveHaste - 2006-03-10 15:43:26
Oh.

I was just talking to my friend, he didn't grind, he played it for 3 years and completed everything. His name is Elendire. (but he doesn't play anymore, but you can find people who know him)
by Ninjiz - 2006-03-10 16:00:54
meh

Why should a company store your data all year round without you paying? thats just asinine. RO takes VERY little bandwidth, and server space. The game is SO much smaller and basic in scale that it could be run of a server in your closet. And RO doesnt update nearly as often as SE does. 3 months is more than fair to not play and still have your character. FFXI is a far bigger game, amd requires far more server sizes, bandwidth. Its a watse of space for a companny to keep inactive characters. The servers can only hold so many characters, and each inactive character they keep around, prevents new players from creating characters, or existing players from created more mules for storage space. The Xbox 360 beta had SO many users on it, that for liek a day no one could create any new charaters to join the beta, because the server was full. They had to do an update just to allow players to create new accounts. Do more things if you want Fun, its a MMORPG. And oh please, your friend who played for 3 years, didnt "DO everything" because they add NEW stuff all teh time. So its impossible to do everything in the game. So unless he has a "Matt Cap" i dont want to hear it.
by GiveHaste - 2006-03-10 17:01:57

He did do everything, that is, only what he could have done from the updates that were already out. And yes, RO does actually update alot. I haven't played in awhile, but I recall it doing maintenance every week, and seeing new worlds and different classes (this wasn't every week, but they released them around time periods like most games release huge updates). And they don't have to hold your character for over a year, but they should for 3-4 months. What about people going on vacations that wont have access to a computer? Uh-oh! Just lost your character. I don't really care though, some people like playing crap, some dont. Have it your way.
by Ninjiz - 2006-03-10 19:10:22
lol

Dude stop lying to do everything is IMPOSSIBLE. He didnt even have a "Matt Cap" so dont give me that BS.

FFXI vs WoW

The interface is the same on the PC and XBox, XBOX includes all 3 expansions, where as the PC requires you to install them. They are the same game, and work exactly the same.. just one is on the XBOX
by Ninjiz - 2006-03-11 02:41:24
yawwn

if it takes you 3+ hrs to instal , i suggest seeking some proffessional help. And POL is so easy to navigate a 5 year old could do it. Its a 4+ year old game. Thats liek whining because City Of Heroes hasnt gotten a major graphic upgrade.

Mmm...

I was just reading all the stupid crap alot of you WoW .> Okay I don't understand that because the people that came up with the graphics were either stoned or on Crack. When I like to play a MMORPG I want it to look crisp and nice. FFXI brings that to me. It's the best MMORPG I played. I played WoW EQOA L2 COH and FFXI~ Sorry FFXI tops them all. For all you newbs that can't get past lv 50; I suggest you take your newb skills and go else where. FFXI is for true MMORPG players. The combats make sense and the missions are just great. Don't talk ***** unless you tried them both to the max. If anything WoW falls into the state of a 5year olds game... For those of you that take WoW before FFXI are just confused and just want something new; following what people do. For those of you that actually like WoW; go ahead play it. Just don't put down other MMOPRG's. Because all WoW just did was gimp EQOA and add kid graphics. >.>
