Final Fantasy XI Online: exterminating real money transactions

Although illegal on many MMORPGs, the buying and selling of in-game items and even characters using real world money is still rampant. Among those MMOs that frown upon Real Money Transactions (RMT) is Final Fantasy 11 Online (Xbox 360, PC).

In their efforts to root out RMTs in the community, the FFXI team has set up an enforcing body in the community whose job is to exterminate the system. Called the Special Task Force (STF), the group is part of Square Enix's No Real Money campaign.

It's also the STF's job to ban and confiscate cheat tools, which some hackers use to take over other people's characters. Some people use these tools without their knowledge, making their accounts vulnerable to hackers.

The FFXI team explains that a decrease in RMT in the game isn't enough; as long the community still feels that any such transactions exist, the STF will not be dispersed.

When asked whether any legal Ream Money Transactions will ever make it to the MMORPG's actual gameplay, the FFXI team gave a firm no, saying that it's not fit for the game's design.

This game need to a serious overhaul I can not believe FFXI is stillplayed. With the way Square Enix treats people of the FFXI community and there customer relations. My friend plays FFXI like it is crack and it is impossible to earn money in FFXI. This is not a game it is a real life simulator for real.

...and i've never played it. Still have the free month trial but I heard after all the updates I wouldn't have any HDD space anymore. Stupid cuz you can't take it back anywhere.

It takes about 2 hours to install, and it's a crappy game anyway. You have to install both FFXI and their gay PlayOnline viewer thing, and when you're done it takes up about 5 gigs

dont listen to them. This game is actually pretty good. Especially when you get past the stupidity you will run into from lvl 10-33. Has 500k users, which is more then most other mmorpgs to begin with. And wontbe dying anytime soon, atleast until SE brings the next gen version.

I've asked many times how large a download it is and nobody seems to know. Trying to pawn it off on a friend who's into MMO's and bought the Elite.

@Ninjiz that's cool it has so many users but... "stupidity you will run into from lvl 10-33" sounds pretty bad to me. That's a lot o' levels.

It is a great game. I think there's a hard grind and it is pretty tough to get money in the game, but it has one of the most exciting job systems in any MMO, and the Final Fantasy world itself is quite enjoyable. I really wish they would fix the grind, though, because I want to go back to playing it. I had a level 60 Ranger until I got tired of it.

They added a system called campaign which is a great source of solo exp.
