FFXIII PS3 to be held back by Xbox 360 version |

As if having the formerly PlayStation exclusive Final Fantasy jump ship to the Xbox 360 as well isn't bad enough, Square Enix has confirmed that there will most probably be a delay in the launch of Final Fantasy XIII for the PS3 , all thanks to the Xbox 360 version.It was first mentioned at the DKS3713 yesterday by no less than Square Enix director Motomu Toriyama. According to him, while Japan will still get the title in 2009, US and Europe might not be as lucky. This is because they will have to wait for the Xbox 360 port to be finished. Since Japan won't be getting the Xbox 360 version anyway, then there's no problem with their shipment date.
Says Toriyama, "We haven't changed the direction of the development. We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later." However, you guys might want to know that the wait could just be longer than you'd all want it to be because the developing team only got their 360 dev kits only a few days ago. So maybe 2010 would be a good date?
"Right now, we're fully concentrating on the PS3 version." Yes, good. But after that, then they'll be working on the Xbox 360. And this is where the holding back comes in. Oh well, this isn't exactly a surprise now anyway. The moment they announced FFXIII to be going to the Xbox 360 as well, we knew topsy-turvy is the new name of the game - and it's only just begun.

This is what PS3 gets for holding back GTA for 360.
With your logic, you're saying that Final Fantasy XIII will let us down as much as GTA IV.

I dont know why QJ makes up the year 2010. what makes you think it would take a full year for a port? FFXIII is made using SE's new cross platform engine. Im betting a port wil be up in a few months. Hell they ported FFXI in 2 weeks.

Your logic is retarded. For 1.... The ff on psp was a remake not a simple port. And the original ff that it came from was not built on a next gen cross platform game engine.
the engine used to make FFXI was BUILT on a CROSS PLATFORM ENGINE. Do you have any idea what that means??? It makes cross platform development easier and quicker. And the fact that SE had FFXI up nd running in 2 weeks on 360 (the rest of the time was bug fixes) pulling numbers out of your ass is pointless.
to elaborate more, the engine that runs FFXI is a universal engine that works on 360, and PC. Im just not sure if SE still calls it the "white engine" or not.

If you did than you should know that the two months of extra development you flame of will put the release past the holiday season in 2009, hence the 2010 release.

Final Fantasy Anniversary didn't even have any work put into it- they made it a timed release from Japan and America- and even longer for Europe because it was a 20th Anniversary- if you look at the dates FF was released in the USA way after the Japanese version.
I'm just glad The Last Remnant is coming soon *can't wait* and that Final Fantasy versus XIII looks like it'll be 2011/12 \o/ Tbh SqureEnix should be banned from making Final Fantasy- Gooch is gone, Uematsu doesn't do the full OST anymore. The stories have failed since FFX- which wasn't even all that good. SquareEnix should keep making unique games- like what MistWalker has to do now and make different play styles like FFXII (which was awesome :s)
But really though- if you are a fan waiting for another bloody rerelease of FFVII, and you are compaining about Fabula Nova Crytallis taking time you should REALLY think about what you wish for. I'm sick of SquareEnix remaking games- I don't so much care about them rereleasing on other platforms, it's just the full prices you have to pay if you want to buythe game and making the newer versions adding new elements and story. Save all that power for NEW games. If you must slap the name Final Fantasy on it just so people care about the game- even though no one has even seen the actual gameplay yet- fine, but stop making remakes in the process.

Why should any RPG fan get a PS3 now btw? So far only one popular JRPG is going to be released for the grill AFTER 2010, and that is versus.

Even if you dislike about 3 of these games- even if you tried them out, there is certantly going to be ones you will like if you happen to like JRPGs.
Also with the XBLM se'xing things up and XBLA being one of the best things to play online...
Coupled with the great, and I mean GREAT titles such as:

Mass Effect
Ninja Gaiden II
Ikaruga HD [XBLA]
Schizoid [XBLA]
(but that's just my personal preference)
it doesn't make sense whyyou would pay more- for a PS3 which doesn't major over with titles. and yeah I LOVE MGS, and I need one just to play that game.

Do you have to talk about FFXI? That game was made for play Online, it was pretty much ported straight- and because the graphics were from 2002 they could probably emulate it on the 360- it didn't even need localization!

they never said they were remaking the game for xbox360, but porting it the the other system. what will most likely happen, is towards the end of production, when the game is being beta tested, they will start reworking the code for 360 (which with similar platforms, the only major problem is recoding video/sound, and reconfiguring the program), my guess is the game will come out about 6 to 8 months after japan version, like most square enix games, so... we wont see more delay than usual
at least you didn't have to learn Japanese and import a game because of the ps3

FFXIII is a PS3 game from the start, it was a PS3 only game till this E3... during the entire production of the game there was never any mention of having the 360 in consideration for it's scheduling... now they will hold it back in the west not because the game is having problems on the console, not because it is not ready, not because of any other reasons that might compromise the game.. BEACUASE IT WILL ALREADY BE RUNNING IN JAPAN!... they are holding it back purely because of game politics...

No one bothered to hold a release back when porting from the 360 to the ps3. Microsoft have to stop paying companies loads of money just to make gamers on other systems unhappy.
Ps3 is the cheapest bluray player on the market. Anyone wanting disc based HD media has instantly won the argument for why ps3 over 360.
On another note, now that the gap between the 360 and ps3 has closed so much, developers are wanting to port their 360 exclusive titles over to the ps3 now, bioshock as a confirmed example. E3 msoft conference made me laugh so much, microsoft would only talk about north american figures because it's the only place the 360 is still selling well.
The ps3 has the more exciting lineup with games like killzone2, resistance2, littlebigplanet , home etc with amazing graphics. Also there's potential for some actual storylines because of the increased development time; most of those rpgs on the 360 suck, just like a lot of games in the past two years, they're filler titles.

me thinks if they didn't have all their teams working on 5 different kingdom hearts games or 5 different sequels to FF13 then they could port it over faster. I just want the PC version. But hopefully the PS3 version comes out in Q4 on 09 and the 360 and PC may come out in Q1 of 2010.
everyone seems to be ticked at SE (at least ps3 owners/FF lovers), but think from their side. They want to please the most amount of people with their games, and make the most amount of money with it that they can. So if Microsoft paid them, lets just use random number here, 20 Million dollars for FFXIII to come out the same time as ps3 version does, and they get to reach 2 different console owners at the same time, it's a win win for them. As for the gamers (USA and western gamers in general), although this pissed with their decision, i say at least 90% of us will get over it when we play the game.
I'm not going to be playing this game anyways. There hasn't been a good Final Fantasy game since the PS1. I'm still waiting for a good RPG to come out but I guess I just have to keep waiting until Atlus puts out something.

Well those games that you think sucked I really liked so it makes sense why I like the 360 n'ways.
But adding in more story to RPGs- that's just what you think will happen, that really isn't fact, though it does make sense I guess. But M$ really cares about NA for a good reason, M$ is american (I'm from England) and it does pain me that our XBLM isn't as much of awesomeness as the theirs. But really about the BluRay- me and my brother just rip the HD stuff and stream HD content to the 360- Live Tours of J-Pop artists upscaled or rendered at 1080i always works for us, and if we wanted BluRay we'd just getthe rive for the PC maybe.. Unless there is a way to rip BluRay from the PS3- now that would be awesome ;) [if so tell me- :o]
BioShock is pretty much old now, and I have just completed it again for like the 4th time or so, went to get my Brass Balls achievement, so I won't be playing the best game ever on the PS3. And about Exclusive titles- the exclusive ones for the PS3 look much more amazng, but really I'm not all that fussed about the better graphics, if I was I'd just use my brother's PC and play Crysis (which is bad imo) or Mass Effect for the 6th time.... The during time it takes to get localized they will start the 360 porting process, they don't know how long it will take- so we could be looking for the normal 6 months slap-back.
If you're looking for a good RPG, get Diablo III when it comes out, it will be an epic game.

Delay, delay, delay, this is the only thing Square Enix has produced since this game was announced. I didn't even get bothered by the fact they are releasing FF XIII on the 360, it's all about making money and I can appreciate that but, holding back the PS3 because of the Xbox port seems a little questionable. Do they feel if they release it on the PS3 first all of the 360 owners will run out to buy a PS3 and not purchase the 360 version? Probably not, since the FF franchise games have not been that great since FF VII! My opinion only. Seems like they have some jackasses running the production and marketing departments. PS3 owners need to bank on another RPG rather than just FF all of the time!
Not come to the realization that Lost Odyssey is just a Final Fantasy clone yet? Seriously, they basically took good features from every Final Fantasy game, but stuck it in a game where there's nothing that really stands out from any other RPG out there, especially when it's turn based. I'd kill for a new Shadow Hearts game, or Legend of Dragoon, just because it's different from clicking attack or any other option from a menu and automatically executing it. Lost Odyssey didn't even have interesting system like Materia or Junctioning, or anything that would make it stand out from the typical level up and learn a skill, get better stats style of RPG. Seriously, there's nothing about that game I'm jealous about. The ONLY game I'm jealous the 360 has that the PS3 doesn't is Mass Effect. And Fable isn't going to be that great because the creators obviously forgot that the main problem with the first was a short campaign. And Fable 2's can be beaten in 12 hours. If I want a 360 I'll just update my laptop. I'll just buy Mass Effect for PC.

I own neither the PS3 or 360 (Wii owner who is currently pissed over no hardcore games) but I have to side with PS3 owners here, if it finishes first they should release it, I don't get how JRPGs are being made for the 360, they don't sell really well here (Square enix games being the exception) and what makes it worse is that the 360 failed in Japan terribly. This may be a good strategy for SE in the end due to FF popularity, but other companies should not be following this trend, because JRPGs sell like hotcakes in Japan

You dont get it. My point was SE is familiar with porting to 360. The average development time for ports is about 6 months. But thats when they are using Engines built for sepcific platforms. It takes time to convert that to a new platform. But THIS engine for FFXIII is a Multiplatform engine, and thus will be a faster port.
What im saying is, stop QQing and you have no idea how long the port will take, and you have no idea when the JP FFXIII will be out as a real release date has not been set. Games are finished MONTHS before they even get released half the time anyway. Games are finished long before they reach gold status and are ready to be mass produced on disc. You *****ing make it sound liek FFXIII will bereleased on Nov 2009, and THEN se will work on 360 version... get a grip..

Wasn't White Knight Story supposed to come out forever ago? Looks like Level 5 is the only platform specific RPG developer now, (except for Mistwalker, or whoever make Fable,. which I can buy for PC).
Seriously, if I didn't know any better you'd think this is the first time something like this has happened. Money rules the world and considering most of you are commenting using a PC with windows, Microsoft will never be bought out. They were already making a profit on the 360 for a year before the price cut just as sure as Halo 3, Gears of War and all their first party releases this year will continue that trend of profits. The 360 isn't going anywhere so "Playsta" (and their fans) are going to have to play the game the way Xbox did the last generation. 360 is easier to develop for so it wont take long. And come on, FF13 was first shown at E3 of 2006 and I'm sure they've been working on it long before then too. If they weren't done by now, chances are you FF boys and girls can wait a bit longer for it. Stop the flame war because all you are doing is making fools of yourselfs and disrespecting the hard devs over at Square. Well, you're also promoting the game so I guess that's a plus.
