Red Rings bringing your Xbox 360 down for the count? Microsoft's still trying to make ends meet, albeit still a bit too late for some. The big MS is doing it quietly too: the new Xbox 360 Japser motherboards, which supposedly have the RRoD-proof(?) 65nm GPU chips, have been spotted in the wild without much fuss from the console manufacturer.

On the outside, your most obvious clue would be the power brick (err, did someone say brick?) and cord. The new Jasper model's power supply is now running on 150W - as opposed to the Falcon's 175W - with the plug changed to prevent usage on a former 360 model.

According to the reports, another change is the onboard flash chip which has been pumped up from 16MB to a whopping 256MB, supposedly for an easier time with NXE installation without requiring an external drive. Of course, the memory upgrade isn't only for NXE - you can still use t for game saves and other media.

With the hardware changes introduced in the Jasper, the new Xbox 360 is now expected to run smoother (and quieter), use less power, and of course, curb over-heating.

» depends...

I bought my last year at Future Shop in Vancouver when Falcon just hit the market for < 2 months... I missed by about 2 lot and got stuck with gen2 instead. So far mine is still alive and kicking so that's relief

Just like Windows - the xbox 360 still has some glitches - Cant top Sony's engineers! Let's start the fire!! LOOL Good luck with the new one - I hope ya dont get the RRoD - not only that but something else just like their patches.

» ..stfu

Anyways no thanks. my falcon is less noisy then this piece of ***** jasper.

by Shatterdome - 2008-11-30 14:57
» Well...

The noise doens't have alot to do with the mobo and fans....it's primarily the DVD drive that sounds like a jet engine when it spins up....MS uses many diff DVD drives in their consoles and some older models may still have a quieter DVD drive then the new ones...

I know dvd drives make noise but I mostly talking about idle sound on both the falcon and jasper. imo the falcons less quieter than the Jaspers.

» Nope, Sony engineers really are unbeatable...

PS2 DREs.

1 in 8 cell chips not working.

Amazing, amazing engineers.

Everything has its problems. Nothing is perfect. Things like this are very tempremental. The RRoD is pretty much non-existant now, it's just worry and anti-fanboyism that's kept it an "issue".
