Now this is a story of epic proportions. The guy you see from the photo below got kicked out from a New York City library after he reportedly brought a monitor, a wireless router, an Xbox 360, his external HD, a controller (it's hidden by a newspaper as you can see below) and a headset then began playing a shooter game, possibly Halo 3 or Call of Duty  using the library's public Wi-Fi connection.

He then apparently used his headset to yell out orders to his teammates prompting some library officials to shut him down. Now if that's not awesome, I don't know what is!

Its called paying for your internet service provider. One obvious question that is apparent though is why didn't he just 'steal' his neighbors' unprotected Wi-Fi connection.

Living in Manhattan, I have a few friends that live in less desirable conditions like the Projects.

They tell me they have shortages of free internet in said places.

Judging by the way he dresses and looks and why he's there in the first place, he's probably from the ghetto and has trouble finding free internet there.

NYPL happened to be the best place to get heads in HALO on XBL in the end I guess.

» QJ - Heads Up.

Oh and a wireless router doesn't work like that. You need a Wireless NETWORK ADAPTER to get internet off the library. Unless NYPL supplies ethernet cables to laptop users which I haven't come across yet. Besides you wouldn't need a Wireless Router if you had a ethernet cord.

» Actually...

Most good routers will let it act as a wireless network adapter as well, allowing you to search for and connect to a wireless network.

I do it now and then when I am bored to see if anyone in the apt block is sharing any interesting files....

Name one "good" router that does that. I will literally go out and Buy one right this moment.

» Actually.. no

Nope, never heard of using a router as a wireless network adapter (why the hell would you want to? there huge!)

btw this guy is legend

» Actually....Actually...yes

They are called wireless bridges. Any yes, there exist routers that double as bridges.

by acerious - 2009-08-29 05:32
» Don't be ridiculous Squid.

How are you going to get the said bridge mode to work with the Xbox 360 without configuring it via windows?

» about the router

You can actually use almost any router with a custom firmware like DD-WRT installed to achieve that.
