A lot of people got all excited when Microsoft announced Facebook and Twitter integration back in E3. A few months and a couple of firmware updates later, Microsoft is ready to bring those features into Xbox Live - at least for the UK.

Info doesn't come from an announcement, but at a short line under the ads on Xbox.com that reads, "Coming soon. Service launches 17th November 2009." Considering our experience with publishers and their official word, it's probably easier to just take it from those.

» is it gonna

break their balls to make a web browser? maybe they are just doing this to say "hey xbox live has a slot of content like facebook and twitter"

u dont see sony going around saying "hey psn has a web browser suck it m$"

does any 1 actually give a crap?

why are they making such a big deal out of it?

by rollypoly - 2009-10-10 14:28
» actually

i don't exactly understand all the points you were trying to make, but...

i think the "it does everything" commercials for the ps3 are exactly that. sony saying our system does everything, suck it m$...

if you want to know why not just give it a web browser, well one reason might be the old saying "jack of all trades, master of none". every specialized device i've ever used has out classed all-in-ones at that specific task.

do i expect the facebook app experience to match that of the website itself? no, but i do expect it surpass the experience of using the website on a game console with a web browser. the more specialized the experience the more meaningful it becomes...

» i see

so ud rather have a facebook app than be able to use the actual site itself, or any other site for that matter. the point of the "it does everything" commercial is to prove that its a multi-media device. and it is. so really being able to download stuff directly from the net to ur console is pretty nice. dont gimme that bull***** about how having a browser on ur console is useless. xbox is the only "next gen" console without it. and the point i am making is that they are making A BIG DEAL about having facebook. its suppose to be next gen, apps like that dont even need to be advertised. do u understand that

It's called integration. Look it up some time.

Tell me

» Ugh

Facebook is all right, but Twitter is the most god-awful thing on the net. I wish it'd just die

Glad these are optional apps, I don't want that garbage on my Xbox at all

» wow

u so missed the point of what i said. its called retardation, u should look it up sometime

by rollypoly - 2009-10-11 10:38
» i understand...

you seem to of glossed over my point of how the adverts are sony's way of saying "suck it m$" as you put it...

i would rather use an app designed for use on a gaming console than use a website designed for use on a pc (on a game console), yes.

i don't use my mobile's browser for facebook, i use the facebook mobile app... it works better than waiting for the gfx to load and scrolling around on the site itself.

the opinion you have of it not needing to be advertised is just that, an opinion. one microsoft doesn't seem to share...

do you feel the same way about the ps3 being advertised as able to play music? hardly a next gen feature as everything but the gamecube has been able to do that for over a decade...

» interseting

i have never seen an advertisement or an internet article for that matter the specifically talks about how the ps3 plays music. Also an internet browser on a phone and on a console is completely different. You have obviously never touched a ps3 so really there is no point in arguing about it

by Master Chef - 2009-10-11 12:26
» lol

Arguing about sh*tty console web browsers. So lame

The laptop 10 feet from my PS3 and 360 browses the net just fine thank you, they're pointless on consoles

» well

search youtube for "ps3 everything commercial". first result, at the 26 second mark. just before blu-ray.

i've used the ps3 browser, and it didn't work well on every site. then i bought an DVI2HDMI adapter for my pc and it actually worked.... go figure, the web works like it's supposed to on a pc.
