Extended Xbox 360 heatsinks found after MS sends it back |

We have a couple of interesting photos taken by Ash 2006. What you're seeing right now are extended heat sinks on an Xbox 360 GPU from the UK.
"Modded a 360 today and was shocked to find an extension on the gpu heatsink. The guy had just received it back from M$ as he had the 3 red lights," writes Ash2006 in a forum post.
For the non-hardware savvy types out there, a heatsink is basically a device that prevents overheating in a lot of appliances and consumer electronics. In the case of the Xbox 360, it's used to prevent the dreaded three red lights of death which often means that your system is down for the count.
While the common belief is that cooling the system down will prevent the hardware issue, some people in the QJ forums claim that it's caused by faulty manufacturing with the system's memory. It's a sensible point that may hold some proof, but we haven't seen too many details to confirm or debunk it.
There are no clear stats to indicate how rampant or trivial the issue is, but one thing's for sure: Microsoft needs to take a stronger stance on the matter to keep their large install base happy.

Hey, I am currently in the Process of fighting Microsoft on this one, My console Has hardware Falure the month after the warrenty expires and they wann charge me $140? Huh.. Well see about that. I Bought the Premium System in December of 05, ( for you peopel out there thats the $400 one ) and this is My Secound Go Around on a Year Subscribtion to Xbox live GOLD, (another $50 ) But they wanna Charge me $140, for something that was Manufactured Poorly? Well just see about that one..
I doubt you'll win. The people at Microsoft are cheap skates. They won't pay you at all I bet.
If you got it December 2005 shouldnt you get it replaced for free since that was a launch system?
my launch consol diyed 5 weeks ago, And MS fixed it for free...and gave me a one mounth live card as well......

I bought my 360 on launch day 05.
A few months later (around june or so) my 360 decided to stop reading games.
So, I call Msoft up. They offer to fix it for free (still under warranty), so i send it in. 3 weeks later, my 360 comes back in the mail.
Guess what?
The damn thing comes back worse than it was. Not only does it now NOT read games, but it also doesnt read DVDs, CDS and it freezes up on the dashboard.
I give them another call. They give the usual "sorry for the inconvenience." type of speech. I send it back in. This time they send me a completely different 360, im sure it was a brand new one.
so, this one works fine for a while. Im already on my second year of the Live Gold.
About 2 months ago, I finally decide to buy my HD DVD drive. it sux major balls. Go Blu-Ray.
And then, 2 weeks later, My Good ol' piece of junk 360 goes all "Look! I have three red lights!!" on me. I give microsoft yet ANOTHER CALL. I spoke to one of their "Supervisors" and get told that their "Elite Hardware Team" will handle my case and will call me within 48 hours. Its now been 2 weeks and they still havent called.
why dont you call them back?

blame the xbox for faulty manufactoring. The xbox 360 is the best system yet. My xbox never had any problems.

And like others have said, if you're console was made before Jan 06 I think you get a free replacement, even out of warranty.
Thats what extended warranties are for fa.ggot. I get them on all my electronics, both because I can and because it's completely worth it. I'd rather pay $50 and not worry than live in fear of it breaking and having to pay $140 to fix it if it does.

I think that you guys probably play your console too much. I only play mine once every 2 weeks for like an hour and I've never had a problem with it. You guys, on the other hand, are probably jobless and girl-less, so you sit around beating your meat to xbox 360 all day and then wonder why the machine dosen't work after playing 24/7.

Hot being the key word here. Of course it looks hot, it's constantly overheating and breaking down. I certainly hope the PS3 never looks as "hot" as a 360 and it probably never will since the PS3 doesn't overheat and break down.
