EA Signs Agreement On In-Game Ads |
We've seen the power of in-game ads before. And now, Electronic
Arts Inc. is going the extra mile. They have just agreed with leading in-game advertisers IGA
Worldwide Inc. to give marketing departments new options regarding dynamic ad placements within the games of the EA franchise.
Was that a mouthful? Thought so. Basically, what this entails for EA is that they will have a portfolio of their games incorporated into IGAÂ’s network of advertisers.
Yes, yes, some of you might be groaning in agony now. We don't want our video games to turn into the next-gen commercials, right? But when we hear EA and IGA say "dynamic ad placements", we're not talking about shameless plugs here. We're talking relevant and realistic brand presence integrated into the context of the game. Emphasis of course would be on "relevant" and "context".
And what's the first game that will get the glory of ad placements? None other than Battlefield 2142 for the 360! Now, let's visualize... Should we expect NPC soldiers in the game to suddenly break out in a musical jingle advertising Mentos? Nope. Should we expect to see big, robot, war machines wearing branded "tank tops" (pun shamelessly intended) from Zara? Nope.
So what kind of ad placing could we expect? Well, we don't know exactly how "incognito" the ads will be placed, but you get the point from our examples above. No loud ads.

Wow, so not only do people have to suffer with lackluster half-assed crap from EA, but now they have to deal with in-game ads that can change? Okay, so obviously EA isn't doing this out of charity, so what is in it for gamers? If they're going to make millions of dollars off in-game advertising, will their games be $10-20 cheaper??? If they can guarantee that games will be cheaper due to revenue from in-game advertising, I'm all for it, but if they're going to keep the games the same, offer the same crappy customer service, half-assed games, no creativity and lack of support, ***** them and their money-making schemes! I hope they rot in hell and I hope EA dies a slow, miserable death.
they mentioned that, especially in sports and racing games, having advertisements increases the level of realism... as it is, we have ads for fake products along the sides of roads and on stadium scoreboards... wouldn't it be cooler if they were actual advertisements? just a thought.
EA HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR A WHILE
Just try any EAsports game and you'll see
I love having the Burger King as my trainer, he gives me inspiration.
since when is Battlefield 2142 coming to the 360? i really hope it does, but i doubt it
i like when games have fake ads in the billboards (gta) but if EA starts getting serious with ads and make money, then they should make the games cheaper, like software with adware.
this best mean cheaper games, because if i see some adverts and still have to pay £40 for a game i might very well not buy more from them companies
Dont care it will be better on PC.
EA will be the death of the gaming industry
This will mean that the prices of the games will be cut in half, RIGHT? Because if not they are *****ING GREEDY MORONS. I know it will only be like a little ad on a ruined city wall in BF2142 that will say like "Obey your thirst, drink Sprite!", but still. They have no *****ing right to include commercials and ad's if it doesnt mean that the price of the game will be dropped. Why should we accept even MORE profits to them?
