DVD9 is more than enough for PGR4, says dev |
Ó
When word came out about Bizarre Creations having problems with DVD space, the flames of fanboy wars were almost uncontrollable. However, the folks behind Project Gotham Racing 4 were fast on their feet, quickly addressing the issue through a post on Bizarre's official website.
Naysayers went crazy over the forum post by Bizarre staff about DVD size limiting the game from providing different times of day per city. Now, here's what the guys in charge have to say:
DVD size is absolutely not a factor that we consider when designing our games... and PGR4 is no exception. DVD9 gives us more than we need to create a fabulous experience for you guys.
Rather than having two "fixed" times of day, this time around we
decided to use our time to create a dynamic weather system, which
effectively creates a much more dramatic palette from which to work
with.
"We've never had to cut content to fit on the disc, and we probably never will," Bizarre said. To those who are still skeptic about DVD9's capacity compromising the gameplay experience, Bizarre added, "Each next-gen format has its own merits. It's not a case of one system having less of this, and the other having more of that... we are given a fixed platform, and that's what we work with."

oh i knew it
damage control
arent they owned by microsoft they probably were told to keep it on the low. just like people dont listen to sony claims until they see proof
How does a dev say DVD9 is not enough, and another dev says it is? Oh, and then they blame it on fanboys.
Damage Control or not the idiot fanboys blow things out of proportion on both sides.
spaz speaks the truth
Fanboy ignorance.
it's the truth... damage control... and it's very clear. i said the exact same thing when someone in Sony first said that they were phasing out the 60GB (when the $100 pricecut came out) and then another executive came out and said that it is not true... damage control. but then Kaz Hirai confirmed it a day after. you are the ignorant fanboy if you can't see things as it is.
lol quixand, how deeply in denial do you have to be? youre one sad and lonely individual if you honestly believe that an official statement from the creators of the game stating that dvd9 is plenty of space is just damage control. Oh wait, im sorry. i didnt realize you worked on the bizarre team. had i known you had all the knowledge and skill a team member such as theirs i would have been less quick to point out that you are full of *****.
To say damage control with no explaination means you're basically saying Bizarre are lying about PGR4 on DVD. This shows you're happy to accept DVD being a problem but hate the idea that it isn't, and therefore you reject anything which goes against YOUR point of view. So go read Bizarre's entire statement and explain what's untrue about their design decisions for PGR4 on the 360. Explain where Bizarre are lying in their explaination about why DVD is not a problem for them.
where you're doing damage control you would obviously say things that would serve the purpose of damage control!!!! you release statement for that purpose... how gullible can you get... people take back things they've said especially those that do harm to their cause... and the initial dvd statement indirectly questioned MS strategy on the 360... what they are saying here is a retraction and nothing more... damage control. oh and AoxomamoxoA you're not even worth my time.
Don't worry about "hugs and kisses mamo" he is just a little ***** who is in denial.
You're a known troll here and you have yet to answer the question of where they are lying (I expected you wouldn't). "people take back things they've said especially those that do harm to their cause." There is nothing to take back if you haven't said it. Bizarre are not taking back anything, therefore it is not damage control, they are simply explaining the truth behind the story, since the truth has been distorted. That's the point being made. How stupid can YOU get? Unfortunately, devs tend to forget that everything they say is prone to be misinterpreted by those who have their own agenda, especially fanboys out to prove a point (like yourself).
PS3 fantards are in denial because they realize there is no reason blu ray needs to be in the PS3 for games. No reason at all. PGR4 is a game you only wish you had, and won't get even with your "blu ray storage advantage." Maybe it will help when GT5 ships with 10,000 cars, lol. Oh, I'm sorry I stand corrected! All those big RPGs that you may have to change a disc after 10-20 hours of playing. That's a huge inconviencince for lazy asses like yourselves. Did you notice how quickly David "on Krack" Krakker jumped on that blog entry? Wow he was just waiting for that misunderstanding, huh? Why is sony marketing even dumber than their fantards? I guess that's where you get it.... Damage control is more like the way Krakker tried to justify blu ray in the PS3 now that I think about it....
"PS3 fantards are in denial because they realize there is no reason blu ray needs to be in the PS3 for games. No reason at all." Sorry, but I can't agree with you on that. :) Blu-ray has it's uses too, and there's no denying that having all that capacity on one disk is a valueable addition for games (and one less headache for developers). My issue on this Blu-ray vs DVD arguement is that on side we have gamers claiming Blu-ray is not needed for games (you) and on the other we have gamers claiming DVD is not enough (Quixand). I don't agree with either of those extreme viewpoints, because BOTH formats have their advantages and disadvantages for games, and therefore both are suitable for this generation of consoles.
Quixand i'll take your 1.99 sub of the day.
Please read the following to see about console games and DVDs: http://www.gamesfirst.com/?id=1132
first of all regarding my agenda in this issue... there is none. you can check at QJ's initial article where the statement about dvd not being enough was made.. i didn't make a single comment on that but i read all the posts.. (it's in the 10 ten jumped articles a couple of clicks above)... why? cause to me it's all just flamebait... and even in this discussion we're having right here i've never even mentioned for once that dvd isn't enough or that this justifies Blu Ray... i take Sony's side as everybody here knows but with regards to PGR4-DVD-Bluray i didn't side on anyone and just took it all in good stride... what i'm saying now is not that Blu Ray is definitely needed and dvd is not enough... what i'm saying is they are doing some backpedalling here and calling them on the damage control that is obviously being done here... you can call it clarifying or explaining or lying or anything else... but no matter what you call it one thing that this statement obviously is is damage control... and that is what i'm saying... they are doing some damage control and honestly i don't see why you are so heated up about it that me pointing out what they are doing makes me an ignorant fanboy with an agenda... and if you want me to answer your question about proving that they are lying... sorry buddy but i don't go into a no-win situation and that my friend is what your question is putting me into whether i answer commendably or not... it's a no-win situation. for heath... i'm in Australia mate, it's 3.85 and being thursday it's going to be a cheese steak... i recommend you hold off on the olives with this one cause it just destroys the essence of the sandwich.
What I wanna know is if theyre so desperate to "create a fabulous experience for us guys" when why the hell not have both a dynamic weather system AND different times of day? Night time racing in the rain is always visually stunning beyond all other so thats what id call "fabulous experience"
The truth is that larger storage is nice. but it is better if you make the extra effort to make it small.. have you played ps3?? the load times make the psp look fast.. I have seen lots of games that are vast and expansive and dont need more than 9 gig. having 25 gig is nice unless it has to load all the time... i would rather switch discs halfway through a game then suffer horrendous load times but thats just me... the fact is that everyone is calling bluray ps3's advantage but it is the single reason i did not buy the machine... i was a sony loyalist since 1996 but they did their best to scare away my business.
"i take Sony's side as everybody here knows" Exactly, and I know this too, so I really don't believe you are here as an interested gamer, certainly not one interested in the 360, therefore you're here as a troll. So yes, you DO have an agenda! As you've stated a month ago (thanks to google): http://www.qj.net/The-mournful-ballad-of-11-Broken-Xbox-360s/pg/49/aid/96152 Quixand quote: "face it... i don't like ur cheap console and i don't like ur line up of average games... u can keep on convincing urself that we want ur cheap xbox and ur overhyped average games but the reality is the XBox 360 is a pice of crap!!! actually it's only selling cause of the amount of stupid people in America!!! no wonder foreigners are stealing ur jobs." That says all I need to know about you.
game has nothin on gran turismo 5. its time for gran turismo fans to rise again and show all these other racing games whos the boss of real racing
game has nothin on gran turismo 5. its time for gran turismo fans to rise again and show all these other racing games whos the boss of real racing
If you'd played previous PGR games, you would know that it's not a racing simulator, so comparing it to GT5 is pointless.
who gives a ***** if you have a Wii, X360, or a PS3. Who cares what you think just be happy you have either one. And to tell the truth. The PS3 is a good console but by the looks of the sales of Wii and Xbox360(since PS3's launch), the PS3 is getting out sold.
This generation, disc capacity is not an issue. DVD9 has a perfectly acceptable capacity for this generation of gaming. I've read a few things about Blu-Ray games on PS3, most of the space is used because there are many copies of the same files on the disc, with the large size in disc it allows the PS3 to access it's information faster than it would had those copies not been on the disc. Also, that form of generating a disc is also supposed to make copying a lot harder. I believe next generation is when games will need a larger capacity on their discs. But it is almost completely unecassary this generation if the developer knows what their doing. I'm not knocking Blu-Ray, but I don't believe we will get to see it's advantages until a PS4 is released, in which case all gaming consoles and some PC games will have made the switch to some HD format at that point. Although one must wonder at one point will a physical game go the way of the dodo? With downloadable content why not let you download ALL games, not just LIVE Arcade, PS1, and Virtual Console, but the actual games for that generation. It will come eventually, game publishers do not make a profit on you buying your games used, having to download your games on the other hand does away with that. Sony has been working on a sort of system license for games, where the game you buy is exclusive to your particular system and will not work in another system. Whether they will ever release it or not is another story....
Even IGN reported that they wouldn't have enough room for both day and night tracks... but believe what u want
OH MY F**KING GOD HOW CRAZY CAN ALL YOU NERDS GET OVER SOME RACING GAME? U ALL NEED TO CHECK OUT THE BIGGER PICTURE IN LIFE AND HAVE TO GET OUT MORE !!!!!!!!!
You should get out more too, since you're HERE on QJ posting like everyone else, which make's you just as much a nerd as the people you're talking about!
since u obviously already have a preconceived notion about me and all of my posts then apparently this discussion was useless to begin with... you are the one who's got his eyes covered... not me.
tl;dr.
IGN confirmed this issue to be true, and to my knowledge IGN has always been trustworthy. If u don't believe me listen to the "Three Red Lights Podcast 4" on the xbox channel where the chief xbox editor discussed it. It sound it like a slip up, because it was not reported in an article, which leads me to believe that they are not allowed to talk about it... yet Then again i might be wrong, but i still give it a 70-30 ratio... and u can believe whatever u want P.S. Still, I used to work as a PR, and this very much sounds like damage control...
Since you're a known fanboy and therefore your opinion on this matter is filtered by your own predudices (as I've shown). Therefore your opinion on this matter is as valid as Mister Common Sense's opinion on anything PS3 related. So don't pretend you wouldn't respond to Mister Common Sense in a similar way on the PS3 forum regardless of what he's saying, because you already KNOW his opinion of the PS3 and it's games, and therefore you know whatever he says, it's not in favour of the PS3 and therefore is not an unbiased point of view. If you and other fanboys took your heads out the sand on issues related to the consoles you proudly hate, then you *might* all learn something, but instead, guys like you prefer the childish, immature and blinded attitude that comes with being a fanboy. Your lost not mine.
"Still, I used to work as a PR, and this very much sounds like damage control..." Says the guy with the name 'ps3Rules!!!'. So first the PS3 fanboy Quixand and now ps3Rules!!!. Can anyone see a pattern? ;) Besides, ps3Rules!!!, I still can't find it in the news section on IGN. Post the link here so that we can see what IGN where responding too and what they reported as a result.
first developers are willing to say anything to get out of the head light. it sounds like another R* to me. I wouldnt belive anything a MS dev would say they lie only to keep you there then they give you something you didnt want. they force you in to buying a 20 gig hardrive for $100 whan you can find a bigger one for the same price for the ps3. they said they will never need a HDD to play any games so says there policy. i bet your never gonna see PGSR5 on the 360. you will buy your games and end up downloading the full thing later.
Microsoft should start selling the HD - DVD drive at a low price and start making games for it. This way it would'nt have any problems putting all the files in a DVD9.
lol! i can tell it would be a waste of time breaking down the rubbish in your post, so i'll just do what everyone else will do, which is to read it, shake my head and smile at the words of a kid online. :D
it's not good for games over usb, and it's not needed because dvd is fine, and so it's not going to happen.
You xbot fantards sure know false statements do you, after all, all you do is shout out BS like MGS4 Multi. Quixand i agree buddy it does shout damange control. Considering the fact the devs are saying this to not piss fans off. Its an reaction due to the last article about it being limit.
Of course you would agree with him Stealth! You're a known PS3 fanboy, so your presence here is just trolling. Gee, I wonder if another PS3 fanboy will arrive here soon. ;)
First there was Quixand. Then there was ps3Rules!!!. Then there was Stealth!. A cosy little threesome. Perhaps fanboys Vietone and CHUCKINGROCKSATSPACESHIPS would like to join in too. :)
ps3Rules!, So why would you give a ***** you dont own a 360, go get a job for charity or something and that applies to all of you who just constantly go on about MS or Sony, you must have such boring lives
Microsoft really needs to do something about their disc space because in a few years games would require more space than 9gb space.
...yeah, maybe they could use more than ONE disk, you know, like the 360 game Blue Dragon which uses 3 DVDs. ;)
Xbox 360 needs something that would blow everyone away if they wanna win the console war. It can be a really good game or some crazy add on at a cheap price. They need to do something if they wanna stay i bussiness.
Since u read my earlier post carefully, ud notice that i said that it wasn't reported in a news article, but in their podcast, but here's the link anyways (its a very funny one, so i recommend listening to it): http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/810/810066p1.html Also, i just used this name to state my allegiance, but it does not mean i hate the 360 (it just means i like the ps3 more, but unlike some people i don't kick them when they are down). I'm just saying this seems like damage control, but like i said earlier, u can believe whatever u want... im just pointing out the other side of the story
for that link. I've learned a lot out of it, and I don't think of Blu-Ray as a necessity now... I thank u again for sharing this with us :)
that i largely agree with ur statement, except the thing about loading times. In order to shorten them, Sony made HDD available with every ps3, so the devs can use it to cache data, and the games who use that feature don't have long load times P.S. It's also nice how Hardboiled comes free with the Stranglehold game b/c of bluray. More devs should do things like that :)
25 gigs to prove bluray better than dvd9
I knew you'd be here eventually CHUCKINGROCKSATSPACESHIPS. As for Lair, come back when it's got an excellent review from a non-playstation only website or magazine (average reviews will not do given your excitement over 25GB). Sorry, but I'd prefer to play a great game on DVD than an average over-hyped game on Blu-ray. Gamers like you seem to have lost the plot. You seem to care more about game size than game quality. Whether it's on DVD or Blu-ray doesn't matter, it's the quality of the game and hence the quality of the gameplay that matters, not the GBs it takes up on disk. Shame gamers like you can't see that.
I dont know why people are suddenly *****in about multiple discs for rpgs, on ps1 loads of rpgs were 3/4 discs and noone complained, 3 for blue dragon is fine by me.
Okay this has been complete stupidity on both sides. yes this does sound a bit like damage control because no one in their right mind would say something on it is not enough. the devs already knew that the dvd9 format had that much storage so therefore they made their game according to that. yeah im sure if they had a 10 to 15 more gbs they could have done a lot more like add day and night with different weather. but they did what they could with the storage. yeah i bet your gonna jump to thinking im a ps3 fan boy but here me out. the blue ray does have more storage right now but most of the games really i dont think are taking full advantage of it. so basicly it is pointless right now since i dont think the games are going to be getting full use of the extra space until later. most likely GT5 will use all of the space but your right its not the same type of racing game. you cant compare two types of fruits or two types of racing games really... btw.... i have a ps3, use MS software... unforunatley but i dont since i dont like to mess with linux anymore though its way better. ill never buy a xbox but i wont ignore facts and actually common sense when talking about things. so both quianxd or whatever the hell is dumb name is and the other ONE guy need to shut it because they are both being biased... lol
