Make a game for Doritos and Microsoft - Image 1Want to be a Video Game star? Well, we just got a bit of news that may give you the chance to be one, if you can find an excuse to put yourself in a game that is.

Doritos and Microsoft are sponsoring a contest to make the first-ever consumer designed Xbox Live Arcade Game. The premise is that you have to develop a video game idea "takes the spirit of the Doritos tortilla chips brand and brings it to life on the Xbox 360." We have no idea how people might want to do that, but heck, if that includes getting your name in the credits of an actual video game, then it certainly sounds cool.

Here's the basic information for submitting entries:

Doritos-inspired video game ideas can be submitted at www.snackstrongproductions.com between June 21 and July 29, 2007. Submissions must describe an original idea for a Doritos-inspired video game in no more than 500 words along with any other original elements or components gamers would like to have considered as part of their entry, to help describe, depict or illustrate the original idea.

Five finalists will not only get to work with a development team to make their very own video game. They'll also receive a prize package worth US$ 6000, and eventually get to see people actually test their game. Of course, the difficulty is in making a Doritos-based video game, but that's a problem you're going to have to figure out on your own.

In the meantime, we're trying to develop our "God of Doritos" video game idea. If you'll excuse us...

» Umm...

So do you get to create a REAL video game (ala 'Gears of War'), or more of an Xbox Live game (Geometry Wars), or some product-saturated endorsement game, like the ones Burger King did last year?

"God of Doritos."

Something tells me that summed up 1st prize in a nutshell...

Yeah no s*it.

That sounded great, until I heard you had to integrate Doritos into it.

How the hell do you do that, then make some kind of fun game? Doritos doesn't even have a mascot. At least something like Cheetos has a mascot.

» Take My Idea

Ok, I am only 15 which sucks because I can't enter. So someone here is an idea that I thought up. You are only one lonely bag of doritos (nacho cheese). You are hanging with you buds (Fiery Habanero, Cool Ranch, Blazin' Buffalo Ranch, and Salsa Verde) then all of them get kidnapped. You (nacho cheese) has to go around and get your friends back. The levels though are based on flavor. So Fiery Habanero would be a desert. Cool Ranch would be mountains, Blazin Buffalo Ranch would be like the plains, and Salsa Verde would be the tropics. Now each flavor of dorito has its own special power. Once you get the new flavor you can switch between them in the levels. Now there is only four levels but then you have to save the mysterious X-13D doritos. Once you save him you have won, and get an extra level where you get to be all 6 dorito flavors.

When you have all the flavors you have the chance to take on the person who kidnapped you. You have to use all flavors to kill him. Once you have done that you have one the game.

» don't like their real prizes

They'll be giving you a bunch of crap I don't want, I'd rather they just give me the 6025$ minus taxes.

Looks like I won't be entering my idea(s).

and, the above idea... pretty generic and boring. One can easily do better than by copying every other promotional game ever invented.

Better to make an addictively fun, competitive multiplayer game.
