In case you haven't heard, the Xbox 360 Dashboard will be getting a major overhaul on December 4. So what's in store for your console? GameVideos gives us the details, including a Live demonstration (pun intended).

Here are some of the major highlights you might be interested in. First the dashboard is getting a facelift with a more stylistic, streamlined design. The new look integrates an "XMB-esque" menu.

Also, there is now support for mpeg-4 formats, so your Xbox 360 can now play DivX and XVid files on 1080p. Microsoft doesn't guarantee that it will support all formats though. Your Xbox Live Profile will also be getting "friends of friends" support.

» uh?

Since when did MP4 support have anything to do with DivX or Xvid?

And what is an XBM?

» seriously?

are you for real, FreePlay?

you're usually on top of your game with technical stuff like this.

Mpeg-4 support is being expanded to include divx

playback in an .avi container and will most likely playback xvid content just fine.

Its also gonna support AC-3 encoded audio.

Subtitle support (.srt, .sub, idx) is not know at this time. someone else might know more than I.

MP4 support has been around for awhile, as I'm sure you already know.

Please accept my apologies if the article iniatially read MP

» oops! got cut off

okay,

please accept my apologies if the article initial read "support for MP4 formats"

if so, I'm sure they make the correction before I read your reply.

and by XBM i think they mean OXM (official Xbox magazine) like the demo DVDs that they include with the magazine

» XrossMediaBar

XMB (XrossMediaBar) is Sony's graphical user interface for the PSP and PS3. It is a realy well done and easy GUI.

» Hmm.

I know nothing about video encoding. I've always associated Xvid and DivX with AVI or OGM, never with MP4.
