A few members of the Xbox Design Team gave a speech on usability and the Xbox 360 to SIGCHI, a usability interest group in Seattle. One attendee, Jason, took down notes and a bunch of pictures throughout the day. Some incredibly different concept shots of the dashboard and the 360 itself are included, and it goes into detail about the whole thought process Microsoft went through."Microsoft wanted to take a new approach with the XBOX360 and used Bruce Lee as the metaphor for this. Bruce takes in energy and uses that internal strength and breath.
The power supply was initially larger than the production components (YIKES!)"
This is an interesting read to say the least. Filed with notes, pictures, marketing strategies, and a whole bunch of metaphors, this article offers a new perspective on the 360 design process. It would be a cool feature if we could switch between different dashboards because the Loop design looks pretty spiffy, but I have a feeling Microsoft will keep things the way they are.The power supply was initially larger than the production components (YIKES!)"
