Dead Rising Censored In Japan?

Beating them to a bloody pulp's okay, but cutting off body parts is a no-no.

One blogger in Japan recently discovered that the Japanese version of Dead Rising for the Xbox 360 wasn't quite what he expected. Let's run a quick checklist of what he found, shall we?

Zombies? Check.

Blood? Lots.

Decapitation? A BIG FAT NONE!

No decapitation, no hacking off limbs, no dismemberments. NADA.

This has already happened before (installments of Biohazard got the same treatment, along with other games), but the move doesn't make sense to some. Dead Rising's already got a Z-rating which means that the game can't be sold to anyone under 18 years of age. Seems whoever censored Dead Rising is afraid of the horde of underage gamers that'll play their older brothers' copies of the game.

no wonder the 360 isn't taking off there! they are taking out the best parts of the game...

I certainly wouldn't buy this game without its gratutious violence + DISMEMBERMENTS!

I know what you are talking about. Battle Royal is one of them. (SPOILER:Battle Royal is a Japanese movie about a bunch of school kids forced to kill to the last living. They were forced onto an island and given various weapons. To make it more interesting the oraganizers threw in two very dangerous individuals that had servived previous battles. This movie is very bloody and very much a shock if you are not mentally prepared to see kids die left and right.) The original GRUDGE had a decap scene in it I think.

that might just be the demo thats got the censor to it, since theres no way to officially decide whos over 18 and whos not they may have decided its just safer to make the demo for the younger group

How come the JP version of Ninja Gaiden had decapitations, and the Euro one didn't, then?

Screw Japan they dont' care for the xbox360 anyways. Who cares if they get a censored version of a game. STFU and play the game or go back to playing your ps2.

Nice of you to show that you're very ignorant of the rest of the world. I assume by your comments that you don't want to play any games made in Japan or by japanese companies? Like e.g. Capcom's games.

For the others:

Sound really weird to cut the game content, especially in Japan. As no. 3 said, Ichi the Killer is far more violent than Dead Rising....=)

Some of you think that the Xbox 360 isnt selling in japan but it actually is... If you pay attention you would notice it is selling more than the Gamecube and the Gameboys. You need to pay attention before you say screw the japanese they dont want to buy the 360 so who cares.
