Datel sued over wireless Xbox 360 controllers

Microsoft has put Datel in a legal hotspot once again. The latter has been sued in a Seattle court for infringing on Microsoft patents via their TurboFire and WildFire wireless controllers.

The third-party controllers mostly look similar to official Xbox 360 controllers, and it seems the design and not the controllers' inner workings are what Microsoft is targeting. Most of the patents mentioned in the suit touch on the controllers' front design and button layout.

Microsoft is seeking an undisclosed amount for damages. The company is also asking for an injunction against the Datel products.

Because Xbox is just an evolution of the Dreamcast using similar disk file structure, OS, controller and they worked with Sega after they stopped making hardware, one thing i can say about Xbox is the controller has evolved and improved over 4 incarnations(in cluding Dreamcast) but Sony just hasn't bothered to change and it is identical to Ps1, and no-one can say it's because they got it perfect first time because it's as cramped and horrible as it was 15 years ago and they just afraid they upset anyone and change the silhouette of the controller which is a part of the brand.

yes I agree with the sony controller being the same/cramped. I didn't like the ps2 controller. It was too small for my hands and I had to rely on 3rd party controllers.

My 360's controllers, on the other hand, I love.

I'm really used to using the playstation control, and after 4 incarnations, shouldn't you also be? Sony didn't want to change it because it is near perfect, and that it had set a road map for games to come.

You can't possibly want Sony to change their controls and end up like Nintendo. Stating from SNES, Nintendo changed their controls 3 times, and they all came out radically different from the last. But hey, those weird things didn't stop people from playing. You know why? Because they have gotten used to it.

The only thing I'll want Sony to change about their controls are the placements for the R2 L2 buttons, they should be set lower. And making joysticks that last a little bit long would be nice.

Yeah, the ps3 controllers are nice, BUT do you remember those ugly banana shaped controllers that was going to be the ps3 controllers?

did try to change the controller for the PS3 but the new design was not liked by the fans. So Sony kept the Award Winning design that they have been using since the analog controller came out on the PS1.

Use your heads people. This has nothing to do with the "look".

It's already a fact Datel and Microsoft aren't friends, but;

It's not because of the controller, it's because of the mods.

You don't see Mad Catz being sued, or Intec.

Good point, sure its the mods, but his particular joystick looks very better than the original, when Madcatz and others didn´t make the same thing to the wheel, they haven´t real force feedback.

Its so obvious what the problem is, it all to do with the fact that datel arnt paying microsoft for the pleasure of making xbox products, which will of course push up the price of everything that why the lisencing exists so there only a fractional diffrence between 3rd party and official so people will 99% of the time go for official.......heres a nice legal trick for datel....release a usb wireless adaptop so these controllers work on pc.....problem solved then its a pc controller which happens to be 360 compatable

its funny how red octane was able to make controllers & never got sued. they even got the officail reciver for 360 wireless when gh3 came out
