Codec Problems After Xbox 360 Dashboard Updates?

More and more problems are being discovered about the latest Xbox 360 dashboard update. This time out, the problem that Xbox archives found was with the Halo 3 Trailer. By the end of the Halo 3 video, as Cortana speaks, "This is the way the world ends", the screen is normally totally black. With the update, the screen now displays a big bright dot.

The same problem was encountered when the video was played on Windows XP Media Player. This seems to imply that Microsoft has implemented the latest WindowsXP Media Player codecs into the 2006 Xbox 360 updates. If this is true, it means that the codec problems of WinXP has also been adapted by the Xbox 360 dashboard updates.

The video above, which shows the problem at play time 00:08, was already sent to Microsoft. When the person who found out about this problem inquired with Microsoft, the only answer he got was "The WMP team is already working on it..."

» fine on mine

Works fine the Halo 3 Video on my Xbox360.

A little white dot that say like 99% of people didnt even notice or care about is hardly a Major problem now it is?

» but it shows

you how rushed the update was...

with features that other companies would have included on day one.

» Microsoft fails again

If you would have the problem, I bet your opinion would differ. Microsoft should have done extensive testing on multiple 360s before releasing the update. (This is the reason why I will never get a Microsoft console, too many bugs in them)

» foolish sony people

you know it anoys me when sony fanboys slag off MS over a few bugs introduced in updates. For one the PS1 and PS2 had nothing in them. They where empty shells, PS1 had a cd player, ps2 had a dvd player thats it thats your lot. Xbox had xbox live which allowed great online and lots of updates for games, extra stuff and such. Now the 360 can do loads and has a feature set to dream of and people complaing about them expanding it for free. Please just shut up, if you dont want a MS console because you like to take an anal raping by sony then by all means go for it. Just dont bother posting about it.

» I have it and don't care

I see that whenever i watch the Halo 3 Announcement Trailer, and do you know what? I don't care. I doesn't stop my 360 functioning properly so i don't care. You Sony fanboys are looking for ammo against the 360, is it because you are insecure about the PS3? Or are you jealous because the 360 has been out for 7/8months? Oh and guess what, i have a launch 360 and it still works perfectly.

» Get it right.

Some of you people really do talk out of your arse and need to take your fanboy goggles off. Sure the 360 has some problems but come on so does every console.

'with features that other companies would have included on day one.'

No console to this date has features the 360 has.

» Not prefering any companies

I am no Sony fanboy XD I am sticking to my PC. I do not like any of the next gen system. One has bugs in it, the other one is over priced and flipping huge, and the third one has a retarded name. : P My AMD here gives me all the gaming entertainment I need.

You think the ps3 won't have bugs?

look back at the ps1 and ps2....

Best comment ever, because I guess that little white dot in a preview video just *****ed up Microsoft's world.

Also I think this hardly counts as anything other than a very minor annoyance. So far I havent had any problems with the update, and I hardly call a white dot in a video I watched twice to be a console defeating error

» @ #8

Well, if you don't have any consoles what the heck are you doing here? Stop whinning about something you know nothing about. I have a launch box and have had zero problems.

A lot of problems arise from user error. Like the "scratched disk issue" Well duuhh, don't move your freaking xbox while the drive is spinning.

» wtf

to #8, the name of the wii is stopping you from buying it? who *****ing cares about a name its all about the content and gameplay of the games not the consoles name. I would hate to see video card companies name there video card something you disliked as it would obviously sway ur decision on which to buy. *****ing Dumb*****.

» MS fanboy much?

Said by a true MS fanboy. I happen to have both Playstation 2 and xbox 360. The reason that MS offer these "updates" for free is because they feel they have to. They release them with a few extra features that are visible and hundreds of extra features that are bug fixes. I know for certain that the early playstations were far from bug free and sony took note of that by releasing new hardware that fixed the problems. MS on the other hand think all problems can be forgotten with a little sugar coating from an update. I'm not saying sony are innocent either i mean look at the psp with its updates although these aren't to fix problems that stop people enjoying the handheld it fixes problems in security and adds new features. I'm sure the ps3 will be just as bug ridden as the 360 and will have the ms fanboys laughing then.

» to all ms fanboys

and what made you guys conclude that the poster of #3 is a sony fanboy, why couldnt he/she be a nintendo fan or a dedicated pc gamer. you guys just wanted to change the supject.

well im sure if you could point out a single error with the 360 that needed to be fixed in this update id agree with you. Multiple downloads....not a bug, boot to dash only required really because of all the features that the dash has, ps1,ps2, xbox didnt need such things. Forward and rewind buttons, nice but not really needed for short trailers. Camera support feature update. I mean really what major errors do you think this update fixes. Being perfectly honest the only reason I wanted this update was for boot to dash. Im sure there where lots of little bugs that required fixing, but what do you honestly expect with such a vast feature set. You know things like winamp have been out for years but you will still get bug fixes with new editions. Coding and testing is not an easy process, there are loads of possible bugs. A few always slip through.

» Lol at defensive MS fans

A huge lol at taking everything serious about my post. You need to all relax, you MS fanboys. I did not say anything about the PS3 being bug free. And I do own consoles, but I am not planning on buying anymore : P

» stupid

man your stupid...

so sony releases all new hardware that you have to rebuy, but MS releases an update that you can just download. wow microsoft sure is stupid.

and sony is always releasing updates for their psp, secrurity issues and bugs. 2.6 was VERY unstable and crashed alot. and 2.7 came out and not long after they released 2.71 because 2.7 had bugs.

I just like to point out who is a moron. You my good sir, are a moron.

» Seriously, chill

This is what you defensive MS fans remind me of: http://blog.mediacatalyst.com/images/seriousbusiness.jpg And what makes me a moron? I was saying that all next gen systems have their bugs, and I was pointing out a single one in the 360, saying that this makes me want to stay away from buying a 360. And you get all defensive. As I said earlier, you need to relax about your system, and just talk about it, no need to get all angry and offensive.

» Add me to the list

Well, my 360 just locked up after playing the Halo 3 video so I shut if off and restarted it and got the 3 blinking red lights. I called MS and they are sending me a pre paid box to ship it back in. I told the lady on the phone that I heard that there were a lot of problems with the new update and she said "I can't see how an update can cause problems". Well, I never had any problems with my 360 untill after the update and I bought it at launch.
