With so many game trilogies already out, you'd probably expect that Epic Games' Gears of War series is already winding itself up for a third title. However, during an interview with Danish site Gamereactor, producer Cliff Blezinski explained that this wasn't necessarily the case.

CliffyB mentioned that the release of more sequels in the GoW series will rely heavily on the success of the upcoming Gears of War 2, with a possible third or even a fourth title should the game sell well. He also berated developers who put stock in the whole game trilogy philosophy, saying that: "ShouldnÂ’t they do the first game and see how it goes before you begin to think about a sequel?"

As for the story behind the Gears of War 2, Blezinski mentioned that it will answer many questions behind the various trailers we've seen for the game so far. Here's the answer provided by CliffyB when he was asked about the focus of GoW2:

It is without doubt the story of Marcus but at the same time itÂ’s a story about the human race with its back to the wall. And in the sequel itÂ’s a lot about Dom and the two new characters Tai and Dizzy. ThereÂ’s also loads of back story about the Pendulum Wars, Jacinto, etc. And what about that voice you hear in the trailers? Those kinds of things are answered in [Gears of War] #@%!5
6#@%!.

Gears of War 2 is set to be released later this year and will be exclusive to Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. We'll be on the lookout for more updates regarding the game, so make sure to keep coming back to this spot for more Gears of War tidbits.
