Gears of War - Image 1

We already posted a little something regarding Epic Games designer Cliff Bleszinski's GDC presentation a couple of days ago, but today we're gonna take an even closer look at the features that didn't quite make it to Gears of War. Read on, guys.

Combat Cash. This system, which was quite reminiscent of Resident Evil 4 merchant, was supposed to allow gamers to collect spoils of wars and use them to buy new items on the battlefield. It was eventually scrapped as the lead cabal felt the feature would "take away from the game's 'pure action' dynamic."

Morale Meter. The Morale Meter was supposed to affect Marcus Fenix's squad mates. The longer the squad was pinned down by Locust gunfire, the squad members we supposed to become more and more disheartened. According to Gamespot, ff the group did not advance, a squad member would eventually "put a gun in his mouth." Cool feature, but it was also scrapped as the leads felt that it would be "too disheartening for a player if his or her squad started committing mass suicide during an already tough level."

Orders System. Again, this was scrapped because the devs felt it would be taking away from the game's action. "We realized we were not making Full Spectrum Warrior, and felt that implementing too much [real-time strategy] would take away from the central action element," Bleszinski said.

Cliffy B also reconfirmed that a sequel is indeed coming for Gears of War during the presentation, but a tentative date wasn't revealed. For the full breakdown of Cliffy B's GDC presentation, click on the "read" link below.

» yay instead of team members staying with you to the end..

You'll now get a bunch of emo losers willing to kill themselves at any given oppertunity.

Awesome way to turn a game with balls into a sissy game.

» I WANT THE SAME

I say keep it the same and keep the story going. The controls are great, the duck and cover is a good inovation. I don't see any reason to change it. Except the multiplayer style it would be a lot better if the multiplayer was like halo.

» Yeah!

I wanna get this game when it comes out. Then I wanna play online. LOL.

» Yeah...

All the game needs is polish right now, no major changes...

Although it would be damned hilarious to have my squad commit mass suicide....anyone who's played the game knows they should just do that right away anyways, as they are useless

» Master chief is a black person

Funny thing is that i thought so from Halo 1. He sounded like it... Theose left out features actually sound good. Like a ways of forcing you to press on ..

I can see this coming out the the PS3 for some reason. As Unreal Tournament is coming to the 360, I dont see any reson why they should keep Gears of War 2 an exclusive.

The worlds best game huh? You must not play very many games then. This game was cool but severely lacking in length and multiplayer options. Heres hoping to a better longer sequel.
