CES 2008: MGM, Disney-ABC to bring content to XBL Video Store |
Ó
Microsoft's turn at the Consumer Electronics Show 2008 just ended, yet we're still excited about what's to come. After all, its President of the Entertainment and Devices Division Robbie Bach did announce partnerships with Disney-ABC Television Group and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM) to deliver content to Xbox Live's Video Store.Over 500 hours of both standard definition and high-definition content will be available later this month, including hit TV shows Lost, GreyÂ’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives, Kyle XY, and Greek from ABC. Disney will contribute a handful of TV series such as Hannah Montana and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, while Disney Channel Original Movies like High School Musical and High School Musical 2 will also go Live.
MGM has its own big bag of goodies where award-winning films Platoon, Rain Man and The Usual Suspects will come out from. For fans of the classics, there will be Rocky, Terminator, and Silence of the Lambs. Legally Blonde, Barbershop, and Agent Cody Banks are among the few that make up 2008's comedy line-up.
Bach was serious when he said Microsoft aims to diversify the content offering on Xbox Live, because even ABC News broadcasts and specials dating back to 1963 are set to go online. Currently, over 3,500 hours of content from over 35 studios and networks are already available from the Video Store. Before January ends, MGM and Disney-ABC will increase those numbers.

Interestingly Apple were never dented by the zune. However Apple TV and the Apple Itunes store will in the future have to face reality that the online ability to download direct to a games console will hurt them more than any ipod killer.
