Capcom Oversight Leaves SDTV Owners Out of the Picture |
Ó
The result, for unfortunate SDTV owners, is a game that looks sub-par and presents completely unreadable in-game text. In a game that has no dialogue, like this one, players are stuck squinting, guessing or lip reading in order to follow the story of the game.
As you can see in the above screenshot, the text is completely illegible, making for some interesting gameplay to say the least. Some posts claim that non-HD TVs with widescreens are somewhat better at displaying the text, but most everyone seems to agree that without a true HD set you will not get the true next-gen experience that you paid for.

thats gay...i am no goig to buy this game if thats what its gonna do on my normal tv set... that sucks
Yeah I was going to get the game, but if a company can't bother to run the game once on an SDTV ? I don't know what that says about them...
It's strange though because the demo works fine for me...wouldn't want to try it and waste cash tho...
Can we stop with this crap already? Is there no other news than this text problem with Dead Rising? And it's not nearly as bad as that screen. It looks like they just Photoshopped a normal screen shot.
yea the demo works fine for me too...
i dont know..ill wait till my other SDTV friend gets this game
Get a HDTV.
They are so cheap these days there is really no excuse for not getting one if you dropped 400 dollars on a 360. Its like doing a disservice to it.
While I dont own an SDTV anymore, I will say this. I highly doubt that pic is real. I bet it is a fanboy or someone who is really bored who made that. For one, that is obviously a screenshot of some sort. It is too perfect to be from a camera. Two, it looks completly photoshopped. Why would everything but the texted be all blurred like that, and everything else grainy. Two extremely basic featues in photoshop can do the exact same thing...
Here I'll show you

not hard...at all
Screw getting a HDTV. How about I just don't get this game instead that way I save even more money. Capcom sucks when it comes to making games (unless it's for Nintendo DS). The Xbox 360 sucks anyways.
OK I HAVE HAD IT WITH THIS GODDAMNED GARBAGE. LISTEN UP YOU DOG BONING BUFFOONS. IF YOU CAN AFFORD A $399 XBOX 360 AND $60 GAMES, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO AFFORD AN HDTV...... SUCK MY FAT HAIRY BALLS!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
$1500-3000 is cheap ? no I don't think so...$399 was enough thanx.
I have a 26" Toshiba FS WS and the quality on it is perfect thanx...
So nintendo was on to something when it said it wouldn't aim it's hardware at HDTVs,smart move when mishaps like this show up...
wait,***** me,i have a sdtv
From the Dead Rising reviews I have read, they all seem to say that the text on an SDTV is very small and difficult to read. This, to me, seems to be what the problem is and what this post is referring to. The picture in the article is obviously Photoshopped and if I had to take a guess I would say that someone made it either as a joke or an example and the author of the article didn't bother to do their research. Read the post again and see how many times the phrase "Dead Rising" appears. By my count, zero. It's pretty poor journalism to write an article about a problem with a game and not even see fit to mention the game's name. That, along with the picture, leads me to the conclusion that the article was written in about two minutes and not fact-checked and is therefore suspect.
Also, I realized this as I looked over the article again. The picture at the top is widescreen. If the problem is with 4:3 SDTV's, why would the screenshot be 16:9 widescreen?
WTF. Do the world a favor and go die. Thnx. Anyways, a lot of people cant afford to drop another 1,000 on a HDTV. I'd like to, but I certainly can't. With that said, in your terms "SUCHK MEYE BHIG PHAT HARYY BALS!"
Wow, what an idiot.
SDTVs=PPTVs (poor people tvs)
You can buy a BMW and run it on 87 octane but its not a good idea. Why would you buy a 360 and run it on a...and for the love of god, the same "TV" you owned in 1996 did not suddenly sprout a "SD" in front of it...regular old tv? If you do, dont complain about a degredation of quality compared to the hdtv's output.
First off, if HDTVs are so cheep all you *****ers can buy me one. Kay? This is a stupid problem. HiDef should not be a selling point for games. what, like 15 chanels brodcast in HD. It at this point is not worth it to get an HDTV. Its nice to have! I wish I did. Now off that...
The pic is shoped to give you a tast of how hard it is to ead the text in the game.
This place NEEDS modoraters bad.
this is fake! i hace a sdtv and it has great quality. i dont have the full game but i do have the demo. that game looks good on a sdtv!!!! dont believe anything that u here from this.
Damn, so many idiots around here, for the ones that said that if we spent 400$ on an Xbox 360 we should be able to buy a HDTV, so far i have seen no HDTVs that are less than 500$, wich is higher than the 360 price, now picture this: sometimes we can save money up for only the console, trusting that we will be able to play on a SDTV without problems, yeah the image isnt as good but we dont have a good income and already spent our hard earned savings on the box, sometimes it takes a lot of time to save that amount of money (For example i am in Mexico, wich means most of the stuff is even more expensive, in consequence we have to save even more time.) If you are rich and able to buy a HDTV without problems then good for you but dont come around thinking that everybody is as lucky as you are and call them stupid for not being in the same situation as you are.
By the way even tough i played most of the time in a SDTV, i do own a HDTV and it may not be the best one in the market, but it did cost a lot of money that was very hard to earn so i can understand how it feels having to play on SDTV and people tell me to buy a HDTV, luckily i was able to save enough money, for all the people working to get it good luck on it and to those that cant get it try saving up a bit, before you realize it you may be playing on your own HDTV, just work hard for it.
Hey I have the full game Dead Rising and it works on my TV, its a 32" JVC 4:3 TV. Is it some games or all games of Dead Rising doing it.
this is fake, we all have prooved this. i think xbox360.qj.net should really update this to say that this is just a hoax. capcom is plenty dedicated to us sdtv users.
Whoever wrote the news is an idiot. I have the game and play it on SDTV and yes, the font size is way too small and unreadable, but that screenshot you have there is totally deceiving as it doesn't look that bad.
Here are some stupid comments:
"The result, for unfortunate SDTV owners, is a game that looks sub-par "
BULL ****, the game still looks REALLY good.
"In a game that has no dialogue, like this one, players are stuck squinting, guessing or lip reading in order to follow the story of the game. "
I don't know if you are trying to be funny or what, but you totally fail. That's a totally deceiving comment that would make people think the game has no dialogue at all at any time.
"As you can see in the above screenshot, the text is completely illegible, making for some interesting gameplay to say the least."
Take that bullcrap somewhere else. You blurred the heck out of that text and made the picture all look like crap, you are a complete moron.
the picture is obviously photoshopped for effect, but i completely agree that on a standard tv (which is only a few years old and i have complete optical audio and component video, so i'm not playing on some junk setup) the text is just way too small to just glance and keep playing.. you really have to focus on the text in the game. i've never had a problem with any other game ever. the closest thing to a 'fix' i've come up with, is to set my xbox aspect ratio to 16:9, which stretches the picture a little bit, but it takes up the whole screen without any HUD loss, and the text a good bit bigger.
I love seeing ppl come into my work and ask for an rf adaptor for the 360. I always say , Ok , you spent 400 bucks for that machine, you have 6 games ... can u please spend 400 bucks for a CRT based Widescreen HDTV.
CRT based displays are MUCH cheaper and the picture quality is still better than most LCD/DLP/plasma's out there.
I love how everyone thinks that the solution is just by an HDTV.
The picture above is obviously either a. Fake or b. someone's tv is ridiculously broken. I am betting on A.
Yeah the text is very difficult to read but it's really not impossible at all, I have a SDTV and can nowhere near afford an HDTV, and have no problems playing the game really. Just because i have a car worth (for example) 10,000$ doesnt mean i have that much all the time, and just because I have an xbox 360 doesn't mean i have 400$ to throw out all willy-nilly.
A system is a big expense for most people, and a tv would be another expense that really is unneccesary. It would be nice, but the game is playable, and I am perfectly happy with my TV now.
Yes, capcom should do something about it, and hopefully they will. Until then, the exaggeration of the issue needs to stop. Honestly qj.net you guys are above sensationalizin g a story like that.
A wise man once said "Why should I get a new tv when my old one works perfectly fine" -The Wise and all knowing Giuseppi!
MAYBE YOU HOBOS SHOULD GO PANHANDLE ON THE CORNER UNTIL YOU CAN AFFORD AN HDTV YA FUGGIN CHEAP ASS *****ES!!!!111
God damn, everyone is so, "OMFG GO BUY A HDTV, YOU *****ING BROKE HOBOS, OMGOGMGOMGOMGOG MG *wets panties* OMG GO BUY A HDTV, THEY ONLY COST 1000, OMGOMGGOMG WOW, GEEZE YOUR SO CHEEP, GOD DAMN!"
I swear to *****ing God, chill out. Jesus. If HDTV's were soooo cheap then everyone would have one. Get it through your thick heads that not everyone can just afford to drop 1K on a new TV. I mean, honestly. Chill out. *
All these people *****ing about spending £1500 etc on a HDTV, why not consider buying a £20 VGA cable and using your monitor? It provides HD resolutions and the game looks ten times better than it would on a standard TV. Problem solved till you can afford a TV.
As for the screenshot, its a fake... come on people, surely you can see that! I agree with one of the earlier comments, QJ.net are above blowing a story like this up!
VGA cable £20
TFT Monitor £120 (probably got one already)
Well HDTV has only been around a year or two in the UK, and prices for a decent one are £900+, now in my bed room I got a SD-TV like a year and a half ago, and its still in good working order, and it works really good for everything I have, so why fork out an extra £800 for a bigger pixel display. I'd go with the VGA option if my TV dies on me, or unless HDTVs are £100. Also an Advance AV Cable makes picture quality on an SDTV much better.
Who knows, if you have an advance av cable, you might see the text better. As for this game, it bores the hell outta me.
You bore the hell outta me!
....about this place is that nearly no one actually reads the articles or even the posts above theirs. you simply get everyone with half a thought in their head vomiting some words into a little box under the article. honestly, read the 28 posts above this and see how many times the same exact idea is represented like the poster is the first person in the world to have said idea.
I saw a 15in HDTV (up to 720p) LCD TV at wal mart for $250. I bought a 30in widescreen with HDMI and digital tuner for $650 in 2004! What's with people thinking they're $2000-3000? Text is hard to read on many games with SD tv's. I don't think this game is any different. Save your money and get one or don't complain. Don't believe a stupid photoshopped photo.
YOU CHEAP ASS N.E.G.R.O.S!!!!!!!!!!! AHAHAH HDTV'S ARE CHEAP:

55" hdtv sony grand wega is retail 3,500 (cdn)
27" citizen hdtv is retail 1,200 (cdn)
Yes, it's incredibly hard to read.. but why photoshop the image? It's obviously been photoshoped (grainy mostly except for blur in the text). You don't need to fake a screenshot to get your point across. If I keep seeing faked news on this site, I'll stop coming here.
Please retract the article
