Things that go boom is the name of the game for this week. Bungie's got two important updates up that should make every trigger-happy Halo lover want to smile.

First up is a retrospective on the exploding barrel. In the world of Halo, it's called a Fusion Core, and it's both a bad (for them) and wonderful (for us) executive decision to have the darned things placed where we can easily shoot them. They've got some new pics of the Fusion Cores, including the stages of the barrels' explosion factor, from inert to "assplodey." They also have a downloadable Quicktime video which you can use to manipulate the barrels, allowing you to rotate and zoom in on the barrels themselves.

Second, and perhaps more importantly to current Halo 2 veterans, is the news that they'll be doing some automatic updating prior to the addition of the new Desolation and Tombstone maps. With this update, Bungie will be getting more functionality in weeding out cheaters and, as well as "clear your online networking history," making some of your games between the update and the addition of the new maps potentially rocky and somewhat slower as well.
