Bungie update: The Covenant Weapons |

Ó
Master Chief's final adventure is almost upon us, and to get us up to speed on some of the classier hardware we'll be bringing to bear in Halo 3 is Bungie's website update that covers some of the weaponry of the Covenant. We get you up close and personal with the tools of the trade that's got the UNSC baffled, but very interested.
First up is the Type 25 Directed Energy Rifle, or the Plasma Rifle. It's big, it's heavy, it can pretty much rip through anything in its path - and can even double as a melee weapon, as some of the Elites carrying it have shown. A battery-operated weapon rather than one that uses conventional ammunition, it has no recoil to speak of, practically eliminating the chances of fatigue or firing stress upon the user. It's still heavy, though.
Next is the Type 25 Directed Energy Pistol, or Plasma Pistol. It's just as useful as it was in its previous appearances, battery-powered and capable of semi-automatic fire. It can also be made to shoot overcharge shots, but abuse of the feature drastically cuts the battery's lifespan. Another legendary staple.
From the Plasma weapons, it's the toys for the big boys...er, Covenant, that's up next.
The Carbine is a massive weapon that fires 8mm caseless rounds. The Needler, that shooter of pink exploding death that we all know and love, also makes its return, and it's deadlier than ever. The Covenant Beam Rifle is silent, accurate and deadly at long distances - it's a testament to the old adage that people being sniped never really know what hit them until it's too late. Finally, we also get a peek at the Fuel Rod Cannon, the armor-busting toy of the bunch - and does it pack a punch!
You can read up on these tools of mass destruction in more detail at the Read link below. Make sure you browse through the remarks section too, to get a taste of just how powerful these things are - as well as see how the guys over at UNSC are hard at work trying to find out just how they work.
