Bungie polished Halo 2 Vista, looks way better than Halo 2 Xbox

This story should have been posted way back in April 26, but it got lost somewhere in the World Wide Web. Luckily, a fellow blogger was kind enough to pull a backup from this blogger's nether regions, so at least we had the original article on the topic.

Now we would have called it a screen comparison, but because that's GameSpot's take on the ish, we'll let them take the flame lickin'. What they did show, however, was that for a title delayed three years to come out on the PC, Halo 2 Vista looks sharp, stunning, gorgeous and even better than the Xbox version (also playable on the 360). Check out the high quality screen caps just immediately below.

Even in low quality settings (shown below), the Vista version really stands out from the Xbox version. But because the Xbox screens were probably captured through TV and not LCD, the comparison is definitely not technologically credible enough to warrant a full techie comparison by our standards.

What GameSpot didn't cover was the part where the geeks smirk and say, "That's it?" We mean, come on, after three years in hiatus, Bungie only has this graphics stunt to show. So now it's rendered in DirectX9, but wouldn't it be better if it was on par with Vista's DirectX 10? If you're going to Vista anyway, it would be because of DirectX 10 native support in the kernel.

New exclusive multiplayer maps aren't exactly a geek's cup of tea, but perhaps the graphics alone had some Halo 2 fans drooling for another go with Halo 2. We're not keeping our fingers crossed, however, if anything doesn't go the way people were anticipating the game to be. It would sure be nice to see Cortana in much better detail before she turned over to the dark side...of the Flood, though.

Guessing

Since I have never played them on a PC, im totaly guessing here, but it could easily be a left click + right click situation.

hmmm

i wouldnt really like that, i hope it has gamepad support

by Shatterdome - 2007-04-27 22:34:24
It will...

Most definately have support for the 360 controller... Also, it seems they didn't actually touch the game much, if at all...the difference seen is just because of a MUCH higher resolution and probably 16XASF and 6X FSAA...

....

your lucky most people are getting horable performance and lots of BSOD's just go look at the nvidia froums!! But it will be fixed with time just like XP

.

Halo 2 for vista has full support for the Xbox 360 gamepad and most likely other vista certified gamepads. and as for the dual fire. probably will be left and right click. and honestly those screens look to be at 1280x1024 with AA on. probably not even maxed.

.

And it being for PC is a plus... ;) I hope somehow we can run this on XP though.

...

I'm probably going to get this for the Halo 2 acheivments. I have the wireless gaming receiver for my PC so I'll be using my wireless xbox pad on it.

question

what are the chances of someone cracking halo 2 vista and making it work with xp? for better performance...

by Darth Manson - 2007-04-28 12:08:31
I dunno...

What are the chances of me cracking your MOM and making her work with my *****?

by - 2007-04-29 12:04:21
but

they should

by - 2007-05-04 21:02:05
...

yes they do work fine, you just need more RAM and a dual-core, and you'll do fine on Vista. and the reason why the nvidia forums are packed with errors are because they aren't using proper cards for Vista, I suggest if you want to play H2 on Vista go out and buy an 8500, or an 8600 (or 8800 if you have the money for it)
