Why did Bungie change the name of Halo: Recon to Halo: ODST? Product Manager Ryan Crosby explains that the new name just provides for a better reflection of the said game.
The ODSTs play a pivotal role in the human-Covenant struggle, and we want to make sure that everyone understands that you play as a member of this elite unit. While Halo 3: ODST is an extension of Halo 3, playing as an ODST makes this experience quite different from others within the Halo universe.
And there you have it, another one of our neat little trivia posts here at QJ. Hopefully we'll be hearing more about ODST in the near-future, so we can at least get a clearer picture of what he meant when he said it provides for a clearer reflection of the game. Keep it posted here on QJ.
P.S. In case you didn't know, ODST stands for Orbital Drop Shock Trooper.

Ha, I always thought it was a soundtrack

There's some good background info on the ODSTs in the Halo Fall of Reach book (book prequel to the Halo game). The ODSTs and John117 (the spartanII you play as in the Halo games) were asked to compete. CPO John117 k!cked their 4sses and they ordered a bomber to air to ground missile the Chief he ran from it and at the last possible second lept in the air turned around and slapped the missile to one side. It still messed him up pretty bad (busted the mjolner armour up pretty good) but he survived, that kind of proved the Spartans were more capable then the ODSTs to the UNSC. Yeah so there's ever since been an uneasy truce between Spartan and ODST. Oh yeah there was an earlier incident where an ODST attacked an unarmoured Spartan (I think it was John117), John 117 killed one of the ODSTs with a single punch, they're super strong even without the armour.
Dont' forget they rubbed *****s together and the ODSTs ***** was a very small *****.
I'd like to see that in a game.
i dont really care i just want this game already i guess QJ had nothing better esle to write about. In that sense who would win in these fights......
