halo2So Microsoft has finally pulled the plug on the original Xbox servers. Before they drew the curtain to its official close, however, Bungie made sure to bid its Halo 2 multiplayer gamers goodbye, for one last time.

If you check out the 'Did You Know?' blurb while waiting for the multiplayer matches to start, you'll see Bungie's farewell messages posted for all to see. It's a sweet touch, indeed, and rightfully so too, considering that Halo 2 has got some of the most loyal gaming fanbase out there to date.

The messages are short and sweet, some of them made in a joking manner, but all of them undeniably expressing Bungie's sincerest and most heartfelt thanks to all you guys who stood by Halo 2 for this long.

Here are but a couple of samples of the farewell messages:

"Thanks for playing. Seriously? More than five years after launch? You're awesome." And also, "Title Update 4 addes Theater support, screenshots and Forge to Halo 2! Coming: NEVER."

Farewell, Halo 2. Farewell Xbox Originals. You've served us all greatly.

Now that it's finally gone offline, how many games of Halo 2 did you ever play online?

There should be a law that forces any online drm, content,or server to go open source if they stop support. if not for our private server for phantasy star online all those paying users would have been dumped for ever.

I commend innovation and progress but with all these drm issues and download content, and microsoft going out of there way to keep system link from working online for 360. what is going to happen when 360 is "out of date"...or online,WOW..... or anything they so choose is not worth the hosting but you invested cash into. the entertainment industry is willing to bribe rob and steal to protect there property. but we paid for this stuff and no one is assuring we have access to all this "protected" and server sided content.
