Bizarre Creations on Microsoft: They got cocky on us

It was supposed to be a promotional interview with Bizarre Creations for their new racer, Blur, but somehow, it ended up with an interesting anecdote about the company that Sony fanboys love to hate, Microsoft. Bizarre's creative director, Martyn Chudley, divulged how their company's relationship with MS got strained towards the end. "Cocky," I believe is how he termed it.

The case of the EX

It all started with the story on how Project Gotham Racing 4's development was rushed by MS near the end of the project, with the company wanting to take out the final six weeks of the development. Of course, the devs did not want to - and did not - do it, basically because they knew it' gonna compromise the game and its quality a whole lot.

Said Chudley,

They didn't realize how bad a situation it would have been - we needed that extra six weeks, and it got us concerned with the future with Microsoft... We were getting disillusioned with Microsoft and they were getting corporate and cocky as well because of the shift in power between them and Sony.

Chudley was careful to stress though that it wasn't all bad times with MS. "We had a really good relationship right up to the very end - but they always had other agendas, which were primarily about selling Xbox."

Burn. What say you, Microsoft?

As long as their making money... that is all they care about!

by pholly - 2009-05-07 22:52
» WTF?

The whole reason to be in business is to make money, what's wrong with that? They do make crappy products like windows vista but there's no reason to hate them because they make money.

» ...

they are piss takers out for themselves.. that is a good enough reason to hate them.

big companies out only for money are a bad thing not a good thing. , if you dont understand why then you're probably lost to the system (its ok you can be saved if you have a brain, smoke weed and it opens your eyes BUT only if you're not an idiot, if you're an idiot you're *****ed maaan).

money makes everything stale, it killed music, movies are almost all generic crap and games are on that train too.

» @musev

every company is out for themselves (profit)...

like everything else, there is a good and bad side... if it wasn't for microsoft we'd all be using macs, and if you think microsoft is controlling and greedy look at the iphone...

you think you'd have weed to smoke if it didn't make your dealer money? ha... IMO if it takes weed to open your eyes you are an idiot.

» There are limits

Im not against any business making a profit, or even a huge one, on the contrary i congratulate them on it. However if they do so by selling poor products to the consumer, then it becomes a whole new kettle of fish, they become more like cowboys and less like respectable businesses.

If a roofing contractor came round, quoted you $40,000 for a new roof (probably excessive but its for e.g. only) then he fitted it, so poorly it didnt do its job. What would you do? say "bravo your business is sound, you deserve to make lots of money" or do you report him to authorities for being a cowboy?

Dunno about you but i know which id do

Quality control within an industry like this should be a top priority, else these games will just get slated by reviews and consumers for being unstable, shallow piles of rubbish and as a result of them saving 3 weeks of development, have lost hundreds of thousands, if not millions from sales.

» ???

Does this really surprise anyone ? MS has no problems with rushing a product and trying to deal with the aftermath later on...that's basically their business strategy.

by pholly - 2009-05-08 09:50
» :)

I agree with that, just look at vista and the rrod.

by linked2thepast06 - 2009-05-08 11:06
» umm

Whatever happened to earning the money you make by satisfying your customers with quality products, not average products... there used to be honor in doing an exceptionable job.

» ...

Basically every release of windows could have used another year of development....but they release them anyways and just rely on tons of patches and service packs....

Was it a predictable DOUBLE post from him?
