Details for Mass Effect 2 are scant. Even the teaser video shown last night was rather... vague in itself, Shepard-wise. But, here's one thing we could confirm about the sequel though.

Over at BioWare's forums, a couple of people from the quality assurance team have said that  gamesaves from the first game could be used in Mass Effect 2. Succinctly, QA Jack Lamden says, "Hang on to your Mass Effect 1 saves." And following that, others in the QA team chimed in, saying pretty much the same thing.

They didn't go into detail about what the gamesaves are going to be used for - unlockables, perhaps? And Chris Priestly, also a BioWare QA, explains:

This [the teaser trailer] is just your first taste of Mass Effect 2. We are not yet discussing the details of the game. However, as Jack said, don't delete your Mass Effect 1 saves yet.

Ah well. Looks like Karl B. (and the rest of you who also haven't finished Mass Effect) might want to hurry it up!

I thought money in the game was pretty useless

» Hmmm

It was once you had bought the best equipment.

But since this is a new game, it will most likely have newer weapons and items, so basically i'll need money to buy then.

» Only problem I had with Mss Effect

Was the items were so boring. No unique items in an RPG? Blasphemy. You didn't even have to find the best stuff, the best weapons were all bought from the merchant on your own ship. It was easy to have the best equipment half-way thru the game.

Hopefully they'll put in a bunch more items, both to find and buy, so I can use those 99,999 credits I have built up.

I'll see if I can get any more info on that from a buddy at work who's testing on ME2. He said it's awesome, they actually listen to the testers feedback and if they think the tester has a good idea it's changed the next day. He also said to expect more videos and info at GDC.

There's now sprinting in there that doesn't take up your energy, they've worked a lot on making the gunplay controls good (it won't handle like Kane and Lynch) and one of the small things I'm pumped about is they made it so you can hot-key 4 abilities to the D-pad buttons because some of the testers were saying how in ME1 majority of the time they just hit the abilities button and used whatever was last. So yeah now you have 4 to choose from and you don't have to stop gameplay to select them!

» actually

the best equipment wasn't available until after you had completed the game...

they wouldn't show up in any merchants list until you were above lvl 50.

» I do remember that

The Spectre weapons level 6 or 7 are available at the start, and level 10s are on a second playthru. But you could still be an unstoppable tank on the highest difficulty fairly quickly with those level 6 ones and some decent perk things, if you had the creds for the items.

All other western RPGs have unique items, Morrowind, Oblivion, even another Bioware game, KOTOR, that require you to do quests or go exploring to find them, and I couldn't figure out why they didn't do that with ME. Would've added a lot to the game IMO
