Bill Gates has announced today that he's to start preparing to leave his full time work as Chairman of Microsoft beginning July 2008. The reason? He wants to prioritize his work for his Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.This was announced two years in advance because Gates believes that it would give Microsoft enough time for a strong transition and it would be best to provide full transparency regarding this matter.
Microsoft, a company founded by Paul Allen and Gates in 1975, has Steve Ballmer as the CEO since 2000 and will have Chief Technical Officer Ray Ozzie taking over Gates' current position come 2008.
In his announcement, Bill Gates also said that he won't really be staying away from the company as he will still work part-time for Microsoft although most of his efforts will be shifted to his foundation that focuses on poverty issues and global health.
Hopefully, this announcement will not affect Microsoft negatively, especially at this pivotal time when the company's "packages software dominance is being challenged by Google and Yahoo."

This is slightly wrong. Actually, Bill Gates is giving up his day to day duties. He will still remain as the Chairman of Microsoft. I hate it when QJ posts inaccurately.

It really gets on my nerves all those Bill/MS bashes, we wont be in the position we are in today if it wasn't for Microsoft or Bill Gates !
Plus I don't see any other CEO doing so much for the enviroment and poverty !

Bill gates/microsoft have made the world what it is today. Bill gates is helping out the world in another way by cureing poverty or giving a good bloody go! 9 out of 10 times microsoft haters are running windows and for whatever reason they hate it. Fact is there a really good chance there just n00bs and havent installed a firewall/anti-virus and are searching the net for "1337 script kiddie haxs". Point: GO BILL!

well i wont exactly call a improvement to dos a steal.
but i do however rember that microsoft sign a deal with ibm to use their improved dos, called ms-dos as we all know, exclusively on ibm pcs.
shortly after ibm made another improvement to ms-dos but thats when microsoft release windows, screwing ibm over big time.
IBM try to rip microsoft off, but bill gates knows that so he use a big company like IBM to make his ms-dos known to people.
