Bethesda Responds To Oblivion Uproar |
Ó
Some gamers are fuming about having to pay for two pieces of horse armor for the new Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. And these voices are being read across internet forums and gaming sites. But what does Bethesda, the company that created Oblivion, have to say about charging the fees? Well, 1UP talked with Bethesda's Pete Hines, the Vice President of PR and marketing, about $2.50 for horse armor on the Xbox 360 and $1.99 on the PC.
"We tried to find a spot for [the download] that fit with what other things were out there. A Theme costs 150 points. The Kameo thing was 200. We're trying to find the right spot that fits... We're not even a day into this right now. We've got a couple more [downloads] we're working on finishing... We want to put some different things out there and find out what folks want and what they don't want. These are optional things, not requirements, so if you don't want to get them you don't have to," Hines said.
Hines added that though additional Morrowind content was free, Oblivion is a "different game," and with that comes a "different approach to downloadable content and the size and scope of things we want to do, and what it takes to do them."
To pay or not to pay...that is the question.

This is a "different game" with a "different approach to dowloadable content". Love that sentence.
I bet they will also charge for bug fixes and patches.
um wtf you have to pay real money for vitual trinckets
Comon you jackasses this is free... ITS NOT REQUIRED SO STOP *****ING and be happy they got the downloads out so soon.
Im from bethesda MD. I'm not surprised by their reaction. We're talking about snob central over here.
"I bet they will also charge for bug fixes and patches."
you said this for what reason? you actually believe it?
So being smart consumers when you realize BS is being a jackass?? Go ahead throw your money around all you want for crap. Dont get mad at ppl who are wise and see the big pic. You REALLY think its a simple as "you dont have to buy it?" This effects us ALL whether we buy it or not. Because some DUMB ppl WILL buy that damn horse armor, and once Besthda realizes that ppl are WILLING to pay that money for Such trivial crap, they will start to charge for EVERYTHING. Why do you think xbox360 games are $60?? even the Xbox and PS2 PORTS. Its because last year and teh year before, when SO many ppl paid $60 for "special edition games" it was one big market test to see how much ppl were WILLING to pay. Have you no business sense?? Now everyone and their grandma jumped onthe $60 bandwagon, JUST because 1 or 2 developers said their price of Development would be oh so high, while many Other devs said that the cost for Dev would NOT go up as high as some companies WANT you to think. And then they went on to say how IF there were games that cost as MUCH as they said, it would ONLY be those AAA titles, and NOT a crappy ported Tony hawk game. Yet that Tony Hawk game was STILL $60. For NO reason. Just like Xbox 360 players were charged $60 for Oblivion when the PC version got the SAME exact game, for $10 less.... and then a cheaper horse skin... if you cant see the big picture then no one can help you.
