Bargain Alert: Elite Trade-ups incoming

If you're an Xbox 360 enthusiast, then you know that the biggest news coming for those who want even more out of their consoles is the announcement of the Xbox 360 Elite. A tip we got from Kaiser_911 would lead us to believe that there will be a special way for folks to get more out of their hard-earned cash: by trading in your old Xbox units for the Elite version.

Here's what Kaiser_911, reportedly an EB Games manager, had to say:

Its me again, Kaizer_911 an EB Games Manager...not sure when the promotion starts but we got the flyers and materials a few days ago in our marketing update...there is going to be Elite trade-in/up promotions...trade in a working 360 Pro towards an elite and you get 250 off, trade in a working 360 core and get 200 off, trade in a regular xbox towards an elite and get 90 off. Once again not sure when this starts but I would imagine once the systems hit store shelves.

There's no word on whether or not the bargain that he mentions works with pre-orders, but it does make sense. Not everyone can afford to get a new console, so trade-ins sound like the most logical way to push units whilst saving cash. Just don't expect your modded Xbox unit to get a deal though.

Update: Kaizer_911 updated us again regarding the Xbox 360 Elite pre-order arrangements. Or the lack of it. EB Games will not be taking pre-oders for the Elite console simply because there isn't enough to go around. Kaizer said,

The deal DOES not work with pre-orders because the company is NOT taking pre-orders on the Elite. The company says they won't take pre-orders on the because for one, the allocation is going to be VERY tight....maybe only 2-4 units per store at launch and two, just to see exactly how badly people want this new unit. Thanks.

And what happens if you do trade in your current 360 for an Elite? Since obviously you have to give them the hard drive, how will you keep any of your stuff? The Elite comes with that cable to transfer all data but that won't do you any good if you have to give them your current 360 before getting the Elite... Another pro to just buying the bigger hard drive, you get the cable and can transfer all data AND you get to keep your old drive which may come in handy. The black color, HDMI and quieter drive just aren't worth all the disadvantages.

That is a pretty good offer from EB Games. You could probably get $300 for a used console on eBay but then you've got auction fees and shipping fees and then the whole process is just a pain in the ass.

actually if you read up you do need hdmi if you ever plan on getting the hddvd addon or if they go bluray in the future since unless you have the vga cable and you tv supports up too 1080p from vga which is pretty much only samsung from my research. otherwise yes the games will play all the way uo to 1080p on component but hddvds willbe limited to 1080i and your 480p reg dvds wont be upscaled

I'm going to be making use of this offer probably. But I am using a Core 360 with a purchased hard drive that I baught on launch. Oh and this is my THIRD 360. So the way I am rationalizing is this:

Might as well trade up to a newer unit and get my warranty restarted because after 2 console deaths, and one HDD death, I am now extremely worried about having to pay for repairs when this thing inevitably dies again.

So I think if you had lots of problems for your 360 and its no longer in warranty and your worried about it dieing again soon and being out of free-repair qualification, then why not trade it in and put most of what would be a repair cost to buying an upgraded unit?

You can trade the system in without the hd, which will drop your value 20-40 bucks. I briefly looked at the flyer today.

What and how you save your data is up to you, since there is at least one third party product that lets you save your games to your computer's hd after you've saved it on your 360.

The promotion ends at the end of May, 30th, I believe. So I would imagine Gamestop/EB will get shipments in by May 5th.

I buy a PS3. I pay $600. Mid 2008 a new model PS3 comes out. If I buy that one....here is the complicated part, I pay MORE than $600 for one system if I use my 1st system to help pay for it. I do not see why you do not want to count the Crap60 that you allready own.

So by your logic spending 300 at launch for a ps2 then selling for ps3 effectively costs you 900 dollars. I dont think thats true as you had a full 5some odd years(1 1/2 for 360) to use the system. As for MS making a blu-ray drive if it wins out, yup that sounds good to me but what if hd-dvd wins out(its stomping blu-ray every month since release with the exception of last month) your ps3 effectively cost you 200 more for something game devs arent using. Honestly I could care less about the memory card ports, mem cards are over priced when compared to external hdd's and i have my 360 networked to my pc so if i have the need i can just stream videos/music/pictures and what about the video marketplace, if im not mistaken MS is trouncing sony interms of movies and tv show downloads. And mcfly-now godisamyth(just shows how close minded you are) please tell me you REAL industry experience (i have a slight amount of experience working for independent dev) and not just some babel bs about going to trade shows and talking to reps. @freak yup its been confirmed that if you want all the functions the ps3 offers there available to you through 360 just cost more BUT you have the option for not include wifi hd-dvd. In the premium sys they give you HD-A/V Cable, wait did I mention this is an A/V Cable. There is no way on this planet that you get a progessive "P" scan from that. i already was explained way back two years ago that you get the "i" scan. In otherwords your Xbox 360 is showing (depending on the game) 480i, 720i, and on some occasions (read the frackin box) 1080i.

And i don't know what games or things you are doing because I'm already at 16 Gigs now!
