Here's a question: Do you think of your Xbox 360 as a gaming console? If the answer is yes, then you're wrong. So says Steve Ballmer. The Microsoft CEO recently told USA Today that he believes it's a family entertainment center.

"Xbox isn't a gaming console," said Ballmer. "Xbox is a family entertainment center. It's a place to socialize. It's a place to watch TV. We have Hulu coming. It's the only system where you are the controller. Your voice, your gestures, your body."

When he says "you are the controller", Ballmer is talking about Kinect, of course. With the Xbox 360 already firmly entrenched in the minds of the male part of the population, Microsoft is now looking to leverage Kinect to draw in the female demographic.

"You go to your average 15-year-old boy," he said, "and he will say "I'll take an Xbox." I want that average 15-year-old girl as excited about the Kinect, and we haven't done as good a job drawing in that broader set of demographics."

I agree.

Xbox 360 as a media centre is excellent, the Xbox LIVE marketplaces are brilliant too, nothing to complain about.

PS3 is also a great media centre, but PlayStation Store still doesn't reach the same level as XBL.

Having both systems is just wonderful!

Btw, if you hack the original Xbox and use XBMC on it, there you go, an even better media centre (with some limitations).

I truly hate sitting in front of Pc so anything that lets you easily control some of that stuff from your armchair always has my vote.

But that's the greatness of PC's: you can do whatever the hell you want.

Controller?
Keyboard+mouse?
Wiimote?
Normal tv remote?

It can use them all given a little bit of effort from the end user.

althought it's true the consol have become more family friendly over the year but it is still a gaming consol and so it will remain (I hope)

I just don't like having to sit down in front of a Pc because all your focus has to go on that task. 90% of my browsing is on my phone and i prefer to have a simplified interface using something like a controller with options that work well looking from my armchair at my tv for anything that can work that way, then use the Pc for the rest. For me i really just don't like sitting in a corner staring at a monitor.
