Analyst likes the Elite but sees software as Xbox 360's biggest ace

Xbox 360 Elite - Image 1As much as some analysts think that the Xbox 360 Elite is a validation of Sony's HD strategy and that it's a good move on Microsoft's part, since it only means more options for the consumer, other analysts have noted that it doesn't necessarily mean a larger market share for the said console maker.

GamesIndustry reports that IDC analyst Billy Pidgeon that the new hardware may sway some power hungry gamers, but it's in software where dominance lies. He explains:

The Xbox 360 Elite may sway some gamers waiting to decide on a new system, but I don't expect the Elite to have much an effect on the 360's market share this year.

...The higher price and the 120GB hard-drive upgrade should increase revenue for Microsoft and for retailers, but system-selling games such as Halo 3 will increase the 360's position more significantly.

Pidgeon notes that although the Xbox 360 is more in direct competition with the Sony PS3 and their all-around solution strategy, he believes that Microsoft is going after first place and sees Nintendo as a competitor. He also sees Microsoft's expansion of Live to Vista systems as an aggressive move to increase and grow the Xbox Live community and the Microsoft audience.

Like Pachter, Pidgeon also estimates that the price of the Premium Xbox 360 may be lowered.  He also notes his interest in seeing how the 120GB hard-drive will fare as an upgrade option for current Xbox 360 owners. He adds that he feels that the price for the HD upgrade is a bit steep.

# HDMI doesn't matter!Jin Wu 2007-03-30 18:13
The 360 doesn't do 1080p natively. If you have a HD DVD, then yeah, buy a movie and dig full HD at 1080p. But barring that, you have absolutely no reason to relish the thought of 1080p on a HDMI output. Your picture clarity is equal to component cables.

I'm sorry MS leads you people on with features, but you guys should do your homework before jumping on the bandwagon for something that doesn't exist.

The XBOX 360 supports 1080p natively, there are 3 games currently on the XBOX 360 that support 1080p natively, so don't spread crap.

Plus the eyes won;t tell you "this isn't native 1080p" when you scale every one of your XBOX 360 games from 720p to 1080p.

xbox 360 diagnostics support up to 1080i to correct your info.. ignorant people damn... it can't be 1080p with component cables not even real 1080i. To get full and TRUE resolution you need an HDMI cable which doesn't have much affect on anything for the 360 unless you got a HD-DVD soo yeah buy your dam elite for 480-490 bucks... but remember add 200 bucks to it for that HD-DVD lmfdaol which is like bout 700 buck lmfdaol ps3 what 100 cheaper and you get hell of a lot more *****. By the way even if micro. did added the HD-DVD in the blu-ray cd's have bigger space which stands for more detailed games which is truly high-def and wonderful gaming. BY the way the HDMI cable and adaptor spec.. is 1.2 for the 360 not the correct spec which is 1.3 the 1.2 yet just.1 spec will cause color config and contrast formations on your t.v. a lil haywire just to let ya'll know. Don't whine bout the controller or use it as an excuse to argue against the ps3..... the rumble manufactures " forgot the name for the moment" dropped the law suit and made a pact w/ sony. Also they proven that the rumble feature won't have any effect with the motion sensor soo BO YA. wifi.. ummmm wy mess with all that ethernet messy cables and with what 100 meters bout 300 yards something of that nature " I don't sincerly know the meter figuration to yard forgot" but that covers a good bit of a neighbor hood is anyone else has a ps3 to connect with. folding@home program... SONY is saving lives. 8 cell processors only 7 work 8th is extra for firmware upgrades that require it, anyways those 7 cells are the newest technology processing which is more than 3 lame gpu's cores but they do work very well. the cell is only 1 step from nano tech. which nano is the dam *****, used in the medical field but anyways this gaming not med.. lol but i wanted to induce that new tech coming up for ya'll. I have lot more info bout 360 thats good and bad, along with ps3 thas good and bad. If you wanna ask any questions or know the truth to anything Email me at Tonyproggeek@ya hoo.com thx for reading and cooperating. also try talking to elec. enginers and gaming developing geeks and comp. programmers around your area let them diag, somethings they'll give you soem hype info. all the engineers agree with me around here in the redstone arsenal ps3 100% all the way anyways later bro's...... - Tony tha TIGGA
