Call this a public service announcement from the always accessible Major Nelson. By now you'd have noticed that Xbox Live is down for some regular maintenance work. The Major's talked to the guys at Xbox Live Operations, and while they can't give an exact time when Live will go Live again, they say that things are "progressing nicely."

Hours of fun, promises Major Nelson

Well, the Major can give one specific to  360 gamers out there. When Live finally goes back online, and you log on, expect to see a new download available from Marketplace: Lumines Live! The game can be bought for 1200 points, which includes new content, new music, and 12 different skins. Plop down an additional 600 points, and receive an "option pack" that includes 22 new skins and the option to change the music scene.

Here are the full features of Lumines Live!:
  • Full online multiplayer play over Xbox Live – battle your friends head-to-head
  • Classic Lumines gameplay, including Challenge, Puzzle and vs. CPU modes
  • All-new Skin Edit Mode allows you to re-mix the order of your unlocked skins to create a custom Lumines experience
  • All-new Mission mode presents player with pre-designed Lumines puzzle scenarios
  • Dynamic skins, sound effects and music optimized specifically for Lumines Live! in high-definition graphics and 5.1 channel surround audio
  • Extensive downloadable content support over Xbox Live Marketplace – add new skins, puzzles, missions, artist packs and more
  • Full suite of online leaderboards

1200 points seemed steep, then I read on and saw to get everything you need to spend 1800 points. That is crazy. who'd buy that? Who am I kidding, I'm sure i'll but it after I try the demo.

It says right in the article, "regular maintenance". And going to Xbox.com you will see that it says that, "We%u2019ll be back soon with amazing new My Xbox® features!". So no, obviously this is not just for Lumines. How could it be anyway? They don't need to shut XBL down to upload a game. Use a little common sense

I've been waiting for this game since they announced it, I'd pay 2400 points if it game me a full retail experience. That's the thing about the xbla games, they were all rehashs of old games, nothing had an amazing 1 player, 2 player (same house), or xbl gameplay and this game has all of the above. You would be either an idiot or a non-puzzle gamer to not get this game, this game will go Platinum in hours, just remember, it is the best selling game on PSP and it's the ONLY game on XBLA that has a version that is currently available retail and is current (and not a rehash retail like the Street Fighter Aniversary). This shoul've been sold in the stores as a $29.99 game (price of the cheapest good game - had to say good because I know last years sports and Ridge Racer are under that) but think of it this way, they're giving us a $10 discount to buy it online.

I agree with you that it should have been sold in stores, I'm a bit iffy about having to pay %u20AC24 ($30) for my 2000 points, so I can buy a game when I don't get a box/disc that I can play on any xbox I like (without having to bring my profile and sign into LIVE every time) and more importantly I can loan to friends and eventually sell on
