All Xbox 360 SKUs will get price cut on August 12 |
Ó
We've all seen the Wal-Mart and Toys R Us flyers indicating the US$ 50 price cut, but we didn't get a clear confirmation of the good news back then. But here it is, proof that the price cut exists, and more. The Xbox Pro SKU will get the US$ 50 price cut as advertised in the flyers (US$ 349.99), and the good bit is that the Core and the Elite SKUs will be treated to a discount as well. US$ 20 will be taken off of the Core's current price, bringing it down to only US$ 279.99, while the Elite will get $US 30 slashed from its price tag, making its MSRP US$ 449.99.
Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter said that the price cut "speaks volumes about the cost of production," adding that Microsoft was break-even with the discount on the Pro SKU, with the production costs probably amounting to US$ 325.
The price changes will be applied on August 12, with Circuit City bundling Rockstar's Table Tennis for the Pro SKUs. When asked about the price changes, Microsoft declined to comment.

OWNED
but anyways yeah this looks great! im going to pick one up soon
Me to, getting the Elite, and with a 3 year no worrys warranty its an excellent deal.. and with MS now offering downloading HD movies straight to HD at a cheaper price than hiring it and without even having to go out and get it, who needs hddvd or bluray not me...
Thats a smart move by MS. And the $50 dont make me feel so screwed over as the $100 so im cool with that
Thats great im goin to go pick up an elite it the best one.Plus the black finish and 120GB hard drive is great.
once they do im gonna buy an xbox 360 premium baby!
20, 30 and 50 dollar cuts ? Not really that great of a deal, but it is something. Also, is this price cut even by MS ? Seems like it's just the retailers slashing their prices on the excess of 360s in stock. Another interesting thing on this article, 'adding that Microsoft was break-even with the discount on the Pro SKU, with the production costs probably amounting to US$ 325.' So, retailers selling at $350, they're only making a $25 dollar profit per system? Yea...bull***** on that. Anyone in electronics knows there's a massive mark-up on game consoles, tvs, etc. If anything, it all seems like a plan by these companies to stimulate competition between the ps3 and 360, since the ps3 price break doesn't help 360 sales any. Eh either way I guess it's good for us consumers.
The 20/50/20 price drop is to cut back on losses while still giving the majority of buyers a price cut.
And the PS3 will only have the 80GB $599 model.
