Age of Conan game designer discusses The Tempest of Set |
The different character classes in Funcom and Eidos Interactive's Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (PC, Xbox 360) are looking pretty sweet. In a recent interview with website Ten Ton Hammer, Funcom game designer Evan Michaels spoke about one of the more recent classes introduced to the game: The Tempest of Set.
According to Michaels, the Tempest of Set combines all the unique aspects of various classes such as the Scion of Set, Druid, and Stormcaller classes. This character is essentially a healer though it does have some area-of-effect (AoE) lightning attacks and various crowd control abilities.
Like the other characters in the game such as the Herald of Xotli, the class just oozes with flavor. This was reflected in the skills that the developers gave the class as mentioned by Michaels:
We have gone through the skill-set of the Tempest to make sure that both the old and new abilities are in line with the new Set-based theme for the class.
For instance, the new 'Cobra Stare' ability is a short-term paralysis ability, capable of stunning the target for a period of time and the 'Visions of Set' ability, which tricks the target into fighting a serpent illusion which appears to be attacking them from all directions.
Like all classes in MMORPGs, all that flavor wouldn't mean much if the character was not fun to play. Thankfully this isn't the case as Michaels pointed out. Apparently, he has been playing the class rather extensively in the internal testing runs of the game and found it to be quite fulfilling:
The class provides many opportunities for varied types of gameplay and being able to swap between full damage, full healing/crowd control, and a mix of both is extremely flexible. For a player who enjoys being both a heavy AoE nuker and also a healer, the Tempest is a very versatile and enjoyable class choice.
There were more topics, like putting the Temple of Set in a PvP setting or its level abilities, covered in the full interview. If you want to read it, click on the source link below.
